Actually, there are such things as privately owned prisons. They contract out to house and guard prisoners for so much per day, per prisoner. They say it saves the state money, but I doubt the prisoners like it better than a state run prison.

I think you're wrong about Counties 'jumping at housing our prisoners'. But that's simply based on my opinion, not any sort of fact.

"They" say a lot o' things....but, never seem to have a Plan B, when everything "hits the fan"....if "they" even show-up to accept responsibility for their initial-projections.

I'm fairly-certain Mr. Kovich meant c-o-u-n-t-r-i-e-s.
The rest, of his letter, appears to head in that direction.

Actually, counties do sell their space to each other.
The cost per inmate is far higher than if you had your own space.

!If the ECONOMY was better I think tere would be less crime, down here in Florida I notice the only work is Health Care, Law Enforcement and Correction Officers the rest is low paying service related jobs and Criminals! Alot of CRIME down here not where I live, but I don't like to leave my Comfort Zone!

Counties legal. Countries not. Erik is correct. We do contract with other counties. Good Luck passing laws allowing county inmates to be sent to foreign countries.
