March 11, 2013

The time is now for Governor Corbett to pass Medicaid expansion. I’m a 50- year-old mother of two college students, grandmother of three, and a wife of 33 year....

Has anyone noticed??????

The Obamacare bill of 2300 pages has now grown to nearly 20,000 pages. It increased 828 pages IN ONE DAY. This is the owner’s manual for the health care law that’s supposed to make things better. Are you kidding? This law is a disaster waiting to happen.

Whoa there. Only RIGHT WINGERS get to say what tax dollars get spent on or not because of their "moral" objections.

The easier we make it to be poor and/or unemployed, the more poor and unemployed we create.

Perhaps, we should be a nation that focuses its gov't and economy on the working people so more want to join them.

There is no-such-thing as "free" health-care, but...much like the civilized-world...things change...even in the U.S.!

Ritty77---Meanwhile, can anyone tell me why the poor seem also to be fat?

Ever see the size/contents of a shopping cart at a supermarket a so called "poor person" has while paying for it with an "access card"? Makes any responsible taxpayer envious!

"With so many poor neighborhoods suffering the worst of this epidemic"—Michael Bloomberg

Is he talking about gun violence? Unemployment? AIDS? Broken families? No, he's talking about more than 16 ounces of soft drink in one cup. More generally, he's talking about his self-proclaimed "obesity health epidemic" because a judge voided his soda ban plan. He plans to appeal.

Meanwhile, can anyone tell me why the poor seem also to be fat? Anyone? Bueller?

Try seeking employment at "bayada nursing" or "visiting angels" after obtaining a nursing degree. I'm guessing that you are not qualified to distribute medication to your patients basically making the job you are describing the $10/hr adult babysitting job that 2 local companies offer. Just a wild guess on my part.....

So basically pay for healthcare via the same taxpayer, but from a different pocket??? The money comes from the same place...the taxpayer, doesn't really matter Fed or state money--same source

Isn't Obamacare supposed to help people like Carmela? Expanded Medicaid is just another cost shifting trick that was used to make Obamacare look like it would not bankrupt the country. Carmela will actually make out better without expanded medicaid, and so will the state. The part of coverage which would be picked up by the state for medicaid will be picked up by the Federal government under Obamacare. The state will actually get more Federal money under the Obamacare subsidies than under the Medicaid subsidies. So hang on Carmela, Obamacare is coming at the same time that you would be getting the Medicaid.

Carmela, first thank you for what you do. Without people like you, my mother in law would have gone to a nursing home months before she did. Everyone in our family worked full time and could not be there for her during the day when she needed the most help.

Several years ago when we met with the Office of the Aging to set up home health help for my MIL, she was allotted X dollars per week for care. This meant we had to choose the agency carefully. There was a list that showed the agency and dollars per hour they were paid by the government. The least expensive agency at that time was $16/hour.

I later found out our health aids were receiving a little less than $8/hour from the agency from the $16/hour reimbursement.

I don't know about overhead, insurance costs, etc. for the agency, but it seems to me maybe more of the reimbursement $$ could go to the workers. This would help you and the other workers as well.

Erik - you are just a bitter man,not without reason perhaps. As to free healthcare and the constitution, leeches were readily available at the time of writing. No one can equate today's medicine to the physician and his capabilities at the time of the writing. Ah yes, now without a weapon I would not be free. That is BS. less secure in my home perhaps but I find it preposterous that we will fight the government, be invaded by land and form neighborhood militias. You might find computer skills more useful in an international incident. I am not referring to Microsoft Word or Excel. During the Arab Spring, Iranian youth were able to construct programs that exceeded those of the government and maintain internet access with the outside world. We really don't focus on what works in this century.

"And why should my taxes be used to buy and manufacturing weapons that kill people"

Such an intellectually dishonest answer, one wonders where to begin about wars and freedoms. Perhaps we should start in Viet Nam and proceed through time to our current two Cluster*&%^$.

Our freedoms are not threatened by make-believe weapons of mass destruction, or Charlies running barefoot through the jungles of South East Asia. Had we not wasted billions upon billions of dollars by illegally invading other countries, we would have a balanced budget.

You need to do better than that.

"that I can't afford as a working American taxpayer?"

Perhaps you should have gone to college and earned an advanced graduate degree, or went into another field that paid more money, or perhaps you should have worked harder when you were younger. If you can't afford health insurance, you have no one to blame for yourself, so why complain about it?

Isn't that how the free market works for conservatives?

And why should my taxes be used to buy and manufacture weapons that kill people? I would much rather my taxes be used to heal people.

With all due respect Mrs. Green, no where in the Constitution is it written that the Government of the United States is responsible for the health of its citizens. We have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but free healthcare was left out of the equation. Why is it my responsibility as a tax payer to pay higher taxes to the Federal Government so that people that have made poor choices their entire lives can enjoy healthcare that I can't afford as a working American taxpayer?
