"I get mail on Saturdays. I sometimes get checks (from investments)"

Good one! Even if you deposit a check Saturday-- if your mail comes soon enough....it won't show in the account until the next business day.

Liberals absolutely amaze me on their so called progressive beliefs. Ever hear of electronic banking, direct deposit, banking or investment phone apps, or email? I haven't had the need for the postal service in years. 99% of my deliveries go straight to the trash...

I whish they do away with the Postal service altogether or drop it to 3 Days a week, no altogether!

I wonder if in 38 years at the plant this guy ever saw any changes to the production through automation, computerization, just in time delivery of both raw products and finished goods. What a maroon.

Older people just don't like change. And there are some who haven't embraced all the new technology. I.E. my mom doesn't have an EBT card and neither she or my mother-in-law uses computers.

As Eric has suggested, I have gone to electronic billing, automatic bill pay, direct deposit, etc. Basically I only get junk mail delivered. Even most of the stuff I order online comes UPS or FedEx. The USPS has to adapt to changing times, and closing Saturday may be one of those needed changes.

Maybe I am mistaken, but the post office will still be open on Saturday and will still deliver packages, but regular mail won't be delivered.

@jeff33 - "maroon" could be an old Bugs Bunny reference (that made me smile a little), as in "what a maroon", then nibble on the carrot a little.

I get Netflix DVD's in the mail, so when they stop Saturday delivery I'll have to look at my plan and maybe up it to 2 DVD's out at a time so I'm not just getting 1 per week.

Without the post office, who would deliver our tax notices? That's the only thing I get that really matters any more (besides the DVD's).

( I Too Believe This Is Wrong, Others Don't Seem To Understand Especially When It Comes To One's Needs Of Their Medications Being Sent Out From The Va.Veterans Health Administration. Plain And Simple Just Have Some Common Sense Instead Of Name Calling. Others Need, Depend On Their Meds Being Mailed Out, So Please Consider Leaving Saturday Open. Thank You, Have A Great Day. : )

Closing the processing plant in Williamsport and moving it to a much more inefficient plant in Harrisburg is a stupid move only the Government can make. This is the same Government that wants to run health care.???? The Willimasport plant runs at a much higher efficiency rate by a good margin over Harrisburg. Factor in any bad weather for transportation or equipment failures in this one plant and you have a lose-lose situation we Lycoming/Clinton/Sulivan county residence will get screwed in the end. In this case the USPS is putting all our mail in one inefficient basket and thinks its a better move???? Remember, letters may be down but parcels and packages are up so its a wash in ne end. Factor in the USPS delivers many of UPS packages and delivers 50 times more mail/packages than FedEx and UPS combined. Fed Ex and UPS combined couldn't handle 20% of what the USPS delivers daily.

USPS uses FedEx for portions of their air transport.

Who's subcontracting again?

For these complaints to do any good, you must contact your senator or representative. The reason the USPS has such financial issues is the way the federal government requires them to fund pension benefits out years in advance. Currently, they must fund pension benefits for workers who have't even been born yet. The only governmental or quasi governmental agency that must do that.

( Eric88, Ups Does Not Deliver All My Husband's Meds. Do You Comprehend This? He Is A Disabled Veteran Who Takes Many Medications On A Daily Basis. They Come From Different Places For That's The Way They Are Delivered. You And Others Can Disagree All You Want, For That Just Shows How Little Respect You And Others Feel Towards Disabled Veterans.

jeff33-"Whats a E.B.T. card?"

Used the wrong term. I meant a debit card, like a visa check card.

EBT - "welfare" (which I DO NOT have or use.)

Meds are currently delivered on Saturdays as well as Monday-Friday.

In the event of Bio Warfare, the USPS would deliver life saving medicine to help save lives. Just hope they don't hit us on Saturday if they do away with it. (Sunday? Kiss yourself goodbye.)

nosferatu Is correct. The USPS has to have their entire pension plan fully funded. What other company does that???? To add insult to injury, the Goverenment likes to use that money for other things out side the USPS. (Thank you Obama) The USPS is Federal when its convenient for the Goverment yet the USPS does not take one tax dollar to keep it alive. The military isn't expected to make a profit so why does the USPS be expected to make a pofit?? He USPS is expected to make it in the free market but still be screwed with by the Federal Government. This is like teaching you kids to swim with handcuffs on.

I also heard of this amazing new invention--its called a "pharmacy". I am to understand that these places are open 7(seven) days a week and offer prescription drugs to the members of the public that desire or need them. Some even deliver!! I am pretty sure that if we can shake the need for the long obsolete USPS the VA admin. can probably make a deal with these "pharmacies" to offer the prescriptions to those that require them. Just a wild and crazy thought.
