I mentioned recently listening to a story on a radio show I listen to sometimes about a high school in Chicago that had TWENTY NINE students shot last year in separate incidents.
The story pointed out that police estimate that about 40% of the guns used in crimes were obtained LEGALLY out of state.
It is also an untrue statement. There were 47 firearms murders in Japan in 2011. Now how do you get that in a country with no firearms? Could it be that, even in Japan, criminals don't obey the law? That is still lower than the U.S., but so is the overall murder rate, which would indicate that it is a cultural difference and not a gun law difference that is responsible for the disparity. Maybe we should raise our children the way they do. I don't hear a lot of clamoring for that, but that is the difference.

You need to stop diverting the issue to firearms or whatever nonsense is the cause du jour and start focusing on the fact that we have a criminal problem that remains unaddressed.

It's funny to hear the right try and portray people that support gun regulations that way. Particularly here where many supporters of an assault weapons ban, actually own guns.
You should tell your leaders to find you some new talking points, because its getting ridiculous hearing you claim that gun owners like myself and Buff want to "ban all guns", and find guns "scary".

The reason they can't have guns in Japan is that with 3 or 4 people living in a 150 sf. apartments it's either having gun or a phone. Not enough room for both.
The comparison between Japan and the United States' death by firearms is not very fair. First, what is the actual murder rate from all sources in each and is it fair to compare two completely different cultures in such a precise manner? Why not compare New York with Austin or Chicago with Seattle? Similar culture, different firearms laws.
I certainly share the author's point of view. However, gun ownership is part of our country's history. And will continue to be so. What I think is more important, however, is to define terms such as "bear" and "arms".
