So we should have mental health screenings for those who want to purchase a firearm and David Koresh and his followers would have passed that check?

I think not.

Gavin, While the Branch Davidians had some screwy beliefs they were not insane in any legal sense, and even if they were, they owned those guns legally at the time. They had broken no laws, yet they were exterminated by a government that sees itself as being above the law. Whether you cared about those women and children killed or not, you might want to consider that the same government that killed them for no reason, could do the same to you unless it is reigned in. You might also want to read the real story of Ruby Ridge. Those people were murdered by the government, just because the government did not like them. Are you so sure that the government will never take a dislike to you?

"When someone comes to take my property, a firearm is the appropriate answer!"

Really Erik? You'll either end up dead or in jail. Is that what you want? I don't ever remember a shootout in modern times where the gunman beat the police.

I am not much into conspiracy theories.

I don't attend any of these types of events... left or right.. Massive waste of time unless its a "welfare trash appreciation rally" or swimming lessons by Ted Kennedy.

" Randy weavers wife and son were murdered by federal agents at Ruby Ridge in 1992, and then using the same tactics the Nazis used to exterminate the remaining Jews in Warsaw's Ghettoes, they cremated 82 Branch Davidians at Waco in 1993."

Randy Weaver CHOSE to put his family between him and law enforcement in an armed standoff. He could have sent them out ANY TIME, but instead chose to use them as human shields.

Same thing in Waco, only worse. There you have a raving lunatic that thinks he's the reincarnation of Jesus molesting children, illegally converting weapons to fully automatic, and illegally selling sawed off shotguns. He also chose to hide behind the skirts of women and children with tragic consequences. He also broke the law, and KNEW he broke the law. He could have sent out anyone he wanted to from that compound, and they would be alive today....

... In another genius scenario, perhaps if the people in the compound wouldn't have started spraying law enforcement with fully automatic weapons fire when they showed up, they would all still be alive. At some point you know, people are responsible for their own actions.

Yea enigma, we can sit around and all say we ate against those with mental illness from owning a firearm, but when the practice actually comes into play we cry the Federal government overreached.

Sorry, I am not buying it, the Government was fully in the right at both Ruby Ridge and Waco.

enigma

Mar-19-13 9:45 AM

CHayes, You've got your facts all wrong. Weaver's son was shot outside the home and his wife was killed before the standoff started. There was no attempt to serve a warrant, only an armed attack. The same was the case in Waco. There was no warning, no attempt to peacefully enter the compound, just an all out armed assault with those evil military weapons, that only the military should have. How can people be so in love with government that anything it does is good (unless a Republican is President)?

Citing dates does not make it the truth. He did not read the Enable act passed that gave Hitler Totalitarian rights. How after 1933 the weapons and firearm industry expanded under Hitler along with Germanic nationalism which lead to German expansion of territories. How this brought together conservative forces against the liberals, intellectuals, Jeswish people of Germany. They also fanned the fear of communism and a takeover by Russia. How when the US troops reached Germany and the end of Nazi power they found multiple firearms especially handguns in the homes of German citizens.

The letter lies about the facts just like you enigma.

You know conservatives should not quote liberal intellectuals like Rummel. He researched, study, and tested liberal democracies which are the best guarentees of freedom and prosperity according to his research.
