March 22, 2013

Many letters in the Sun-Gazette urge us to be armed so we are ready to protect ourselves from our Federal Government....

"Being necessary to the security of a free state..."

I, for one, do not find it "disappointing and discouraging" that citizens understand the reason for the second amendment.

Well, the right to bear arms is currently under attack, not the right to vote for any slick talking, deficit creating snake oil salesman that comes along!

Politicians have decided they know what is best for you, even though most are uneducated dolts and are incapable of managing their own checking account.

erik- and your education is what? An undergrad from Lyco? Great that you have a degree but hardly qualifies you to critique others.

"After all, if we need arms to protect ourselves from the government we have elected, then we have failed as a people to govern ourselves wisely."

+++

This is one potential conclusion but there are others. Some elected officials have wonderful oratory skills that tickle our ears but when they get into power, then you see their real heart and this may be contrary to what you thought. Elected officials can change. Some could be extorted, coerced, or bought off. You just don't know what evil lays in men's hearts.

To give up the moral right and means to protect ourselves, our families, and our property is unwise.

I think it's fairly safe to say...a majority of our conspiracy-freaks will NEVER be accused of being informed-voters.

Ya THINK?

The truth is, our sheeple liberals will NEVER be accused of being informed-voters.

The VAST majority of those who voted for Obama were the uninformed voters aka the gimmee, gimmee, gimmee crowd.

David, your letter was well thought out as usual. I’ll comment that a well-armed citizenry is surely a deterrent to any would be dictator from trying to seize control of our government.

O fcourse it is but only some think that they need even more. The numbers of guns in the hands of private citizens in the US is over 300 million. The number of guns in the hands of the military and law enforcement in the US is around 4 million. How much of a deterrent against dictatorship do you need?

I rank this letter as among the best published by the SunGazette in recent memory.

Well spoken Mr. Bross.
