What do you think about joining a nonviolent civil disobedience action against Congress and the President? Congress and the President are “hired” by us (through our votes) and are paid to work for us....

There is a basic problem with your plan Gary and that is not everyone owes the Federal Government tax money at the time of tax filing. Some people actually file their taxes and get money back. Besides that, a large number of the people that are getting a refund have already filed and received their refund. I'm with you that we need to organize some sort of protest, but I don't know that refusing to file your tax return would do anything except gain the federal budget money with interest and penilties when the IRS got around to prosecuting all of us, one disgruntled patriot at a time. Another thing, what exactly are we going to ask Congress to change?

I would think a general strike of the American working class would send a stronger signal to congress that we, the tax payers have reached the point where we're tired and refuse to go on paying for government projects that penalize the hard workers and rewards the lazy. We're tire of the politicians infringing on our constitutionally guaranteed right to bear arms. How about a week long walk out at Easter?

It would appear that Gary wants 999,999 people to not file their taxes so he can avoid paying his..........nice.

You must be putting together your résumé to get a job in the current administration so you can be like Tim Geithner, Rahm Emanuel, Tom Daschole, Al Franken, Nancy Killefer, Kathleen Sebelius, Charles Rangel, Hilda L. Solis and husband, Nancy Pelosi,..........

@Tedeaux - a week long walk out of every working person in the country would get people's attention, that's for sure. Once people ran out of milk, bread, toilet paper, etc. they'd be clamoring for change.

I've heard this idea before. I wonder if it has occured to any of the proponents of this protest that the government does not get it's money from me filing my taxes. It gets it from my employer withholding them from my paycheck. Not filing will not break the bank for them, it only makes you a criminal. I agree that we need to protest, but this is not the way.

Any action would quickly fall apart due to the finger-pointing that would arise.

I am sorry, but there is no common ground between liberals and conservatives to conduct a joint protest.

Liberals want taxes raised and no spending cuts.

Conservatives want taxes lowered and massive spending cuts.

We had the opprotunity to change who holds those offices and you don't like the outcome and now you want to protest them for a lie.

Egypt, a nation of more than 82 million people, fell after only 18 days of protests.

Be careful what you wish for.

Gary- nice letter with good intent, and you're right, we have to get the Royalty's attention somehow. BUT!! Big Brother is watching. In the movie "1984", they used helos and "Thought Police" to spy on the citizenry. Now they have drones and data surveillance, as illustrated in the third "Borne" movie. (love movies) As an example, the words we use in our LTE's and comments are anylized under the protection of the Patriot Act. So until we use the pony express to move our conversations, we can communicate privately- and then only maybe. Because Rome fed us bread, the Emperor did what he wanted right under our noses. We Are Screwed.....

Interesting thing happening here. I am reading all these letters that are ticked off with the govt, including many of my comments, and playing in the living room is Les Miserables and the little boy just sang the song Do You Hear the People Singing and the line is "they will not be slaves again" that equates very well with the sentiments of many. Let's hope it doesn't come to the same end as the youth manning the barricades.
