Religion wars

April 2, 2013

Recently at a Florida university an instructor told his class to write the name Jesus on a piece of paper, throw it on the floor and stomp on it....

" And, your boy, gw, stated in plain English that he thought he was doing gods will.."

"Why did rumsfeld handwrite a note.. on 9/11.. asking how to connect the event to Iraq?"

Buff, your tin foil hat needs to be re-sized. It's cutting off the blood flow to the brain.

Hello ritty.. for every example you provide, I could provide one too. Granted, there is a segment of Islam who believe is Sharia law and it's harsh interpretations but the problem here, with your post and with religion in general is that, by it's definition, it needs to validation in reality. The islamist who kill civilians as you noted don't see them as civilians.. because of their beliefs. The 9/11 highjackers did not engage in anything immoral or wrong.. just the opposite, based on their beliefs. And, your boy, gw, stated in plain English that he thought he was doing gods will.. doing gods will by falsifying intelligence and starting an unnecessary war that resulted in thousands of Americans dead.. and likely hundreds of thousands of Iraqis by starting a war he then couldn't control.

I never understood why we have issues expressing our beliefs. I'm an amateur astronomy and decided one day that I just refuse to believe in God, but why is it my or anyone else's concern if religious individuals express their faith? Religious individuals claim that there is a war against religion, but these same individuals are the ones who call scientist and the astronomy community "the devil." So in my opinion, it works both ways. I just wish we could express what we believe in without being afraid in offending others.

Raise your hand if you think it's a great idea for PA to have an official religion.

Looks like I was wrong, there IS a war on religious freedom.

This from yesterday's news:

"RALEIGH, N.C. — A bill filed by Republican lawmakers would allow North Carolina to declare an official religion, in violation of the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Bill of Rights, and seeks to nullify any federal ruling against Christian prayer by public bodies statewide."

Buff- Patton was a Christian man, should his name be erased from history for the enemy and soldiers he caused to die? I will not go into the facts about why we went into Iraq because they didn't come from the Daily Kos. You and the Libs constant drivel about the Iraq war are getting very old. And what about Pickett's charge at Gettysburg? How many people did he kill? Liberals........

"are you mad at organized religions or actions of some people that claim to be Christians or are you mad at God? " Texas-

Fair question. No I'm not angry at God, I just don't "follow him". My anger within issues such as this are towards the organized actions of those, as you put it, claiming to be Christian. People who are treating others like sewer rats and claiming they are "of a higher power".

I have 0 issues with Organized Religion whether I am a man of faith myself or not and I'm not. I believe everyone in this country has and deserves the right to practice whatever religion they wish. I also believe however, that every person in this country deserves the right and should have the right to live their life according to their own code; not referring to those who choose to kill people, physically harm people, steal, etc. Should there be boundaries that prohibit murder, thievery, rape, etc? Obviously so, there, imo, should not be boundaries tha

No, not laughable as in funny, laughable as in pathetic, weak, and unacceptable as sound and valid arguments in support of your equivocation of radical Islamists and Christians.

Islamists kill because non-Muslims are said to be infidels. While religion plays a part in abortionist killings, they aren't killed because they're not Christians and the number of deaths are hardly comparable. The Northern Ireland situation is far more complicated than your trite summary, and because a former President happens to be a practicing Christian. Please. He went out of his way to stress that this was not a war on Islam, and great pains were taken to minimize casualties to innocent Muslims. Radical Muslims announce they're killing for Allah and purposely target civilians.

"Gw bush was an avowed Christian, how many American soldiers have died needlessly in Iraq because of his phony case for war?"

What a stretch buff. He went into Iraq because he believed, with the information he was given, that they were stockpiling WMD's. He didn't go in there in the name of Christianity.

Hi ritty.. I imagine that the countless people who have died in the examples I cited, including members of our own military, and their families and friends would find it anything but funny..

Hello torpedo.. welcome to the forum. To respond, Christians are quite adept at killing for their own reasons. Christians have killed abortion doctors in the name of their religion. Christian Protestants kill Christian Catholics in Ireland because their not the right kind of Christians. Gw bush was an avowed Christian, how many American soldiers have died needlessly in Iraq because of his phony case for war? How many innocent Iraqis died because of his decision to invade? It is a zealous minority that commit the atrocities you cite, as it is, in fairness, in mine.

wwhickok,

Saw your 6:31 AM post. My comments were directed at the Professor.

I understand your feelings.

Question: are you mad at organized religions or actions of some people that claim to be Christians or are you mad at God?

Why go to college to attend Intercultural Communications Class; when I was in Sunday School as a little kid, we learned to sing:

Jesus Loves the little children, all the children of the world, red, yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight, Jesus love the little children of the world.

Helped me be accepting of different individuals and a variety of cultures.

Love God, Love People
