April 7, 2013

There is a critical misstatement in your recent article on drilling in the Loyalsock State Forest ("Rock Run drilling still a big question," March 24)....

There are many "mis-statements" concerning oil and gas exploration.

Francine:

Such anger. You may need a therapist.

My employer does not read the SG, so, like with so many subjects, you have my motives wrong.

Actually, let's just say you made a "mis-statement".

Maybe the DCNR ought to buy the mineral rights from Anadarko to control surface, minerals, everything.

"unusual deed provision" That being Clarence Moore retaining the mineral rights and having 50 years surface access. That would have expired in 1983. That's not unusual. Those who perform deed research run across things like that quite often. It is common for a transfer around that time period.

Thank you for the letter Mark. And Eric the "mis-statements" you speak of is our mis-trust of the industry. Just read what is going on in Mayflower Arkansas and you will know why. Look at the BP oil spill.

Have you actually ever walked this area? It is NOT a pristine wilderness.

Have hunted grouse and trained bird dogs in this area for 30 + years and I rarely ever run into a hiker or backpacker or another hunter. The Wild area contains acres of Abandonerd strip mines and is undermined with miles of abandoned deep mines. Pleasant stram has abandoned railroad grades and the abandoned lumber town of Masten.

The are consists of a fiorest of pole timber which is not very good wildlife hapitat. In fact the best hunting/ wildlife area is really around the man made abandoned areas, not the vast Biological deserts of pole timber.

Oh, ever walk the old celler foundations in the Wild Area? Used to be a sizable village up there.

Al: "I rarely ever run into a hiker or backpacker or another hunter. The Wild area contains acres of Abandonerd strip mines and is undermined with miles of abandoned deep mines" The Wild Area or McIntyre Mountain is not the Clarence Moore lands. I often see hikers or hunters in the Wild Area. The Band Rock vista is also quite popular.

Does anyone actually believe these heavily regulated drilling companies want to ruin everything because if you do your foolish. All this drilling we equal more jobs and a hopeful future for millions not just a few.

Abandoned deep mines, railroad grades, the town of Masten, old foundations, gated roads, washed out bridges.I could go on but the point here is we have learned nothing in the last 175 years of raping and pillaging this area for coal and timber ? What part of: STAY OUT OF ROCK RUN!!! Do you not understand ? RDA~KEEP IT WILD!

Yep it's cheating to copy and paste but if SG will let this fly... McIntyre Township Supervisor Al Boyer

summed the issue up clearly. "Politicians

are soft on the gas industry ... We've been

sold out by politicians. Are we going to

work together and solve this problem? ... Stay out of Rock Run!"
