Mr. Beard’s letter was a perfect example that people who know nothing about firearms, should not be setting policy or making laws concerning them....

Ever been to a gun show sideliner ? 99% of the sellers are registered gun dealers therefore are required to do background checks anyway.

For those who do not know, it is a crime to lie on the form everyone must complete in order to purchse a firearm.

Lying on Form 4473 can result in up to 5 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.

I wonder how many know this.

The mentally ill are already included in our National Instant Check System.

Updates to the data come slowly...because when the system fails, nobody is accountable.

So, when someone is declared mentallly dangerous by medical experts, it is months or years before the gov't database is updated.

The VA Tech shooter would have been stopped from buying a firearm if the data had been updated in a timely manner.

The Aurora Colorado theater shooting would have been stopped if the university had shared the information with the national database rather than keeping it internal to the university system (similar to Sandusky).

In Chicago, federal prosecutions for trying to purchase a firearm by a felon are the lowest in the nation.

VP Biden said that the gov't does not have the time to prosecute those who are caught lying on their background check.

Gov't fails, hold nobody accountable for failure, and then asks to expand its powers.

Stupidity on display!
