And this is the cities problem, so worried about attracting tourists and not worried enough about fixing the problems that exist in the city for those who live here.

Want Tourists? FIX THE SIDEWALKS AND STREETS! Brighten up downtown, it's full of all, paint fading buildings. When I go downtown, the word "rundown" comes to mind. There was an article referencing blight properties in Williamsport. 65% of Downtown Williamsport is blight imo.

Improve street lighting, put quality city trash cans on the street so people will stop throwing their crap on the streets and sidewalks and have a place to dispose of it and I'm not talking about the trashcans like they got outside of Puffs in Newberry. If you're going to make the city a tourist attraction, take care of the logical stuff first. It doesn't matter how much business you bring here, if downtown looks like sh*t, they are not going come to Williamsport.

Lycoming county only classifies as a tourist draw once a year for little league. Other than that what else is there? A mis-managed and declining fair? A multitude of bars? Natural areas that the gassers are trashing? Mardi gras-a celebration of revenue collection for the local police? A mediocre semi pro baseball team? Kohls? Jails?

Seriously, what's going to bring people in from miles away??? Waste of time by the county....

Maybe this newspaper can help by publishing fear mongering articles like the one this week on security threats at the Little League World Series. I know that made me want to bring my family in for a vacation! Maybe they can dedicate more print to crime and punishment. Right now only about half of the paper is filled with arrest summaries and prison talk. Boost that up to 80% and this city will be a major attraction to... well... no one?

Not sure why anyone would drive from Rochester to here and back, honestly there is nothing here. I think you guys should take advantage of those tour buses that come from Niagara Falls then onto DC. They certainly fill Wegaman's.

Pulling out of Wegman's parking lot at lunchtime earlier this week, I had to pause for some Chinese tourists in the roadway who were taking pictures. They were not taking pictures of a tourist attraction, they were taking pictures of a pothole. I cringed a bit, thinking that they must have better roads in China now...

Lycoming County has a lot to offer...if you pull your head out your A** and bother to see. What is the problem is your negative, crappy attitudes.

Come visit the once beautiful Pine Creek Valley get ran off the road by a gashole truck driver, go camping in the woods listen to the sweet sound of gasholes drilling and then take a ride thru the beautiful mountain sides and see all the pipelinesthat are all over the woods, compression stations too! I can't wait to get back up there!

I am curious mr Jones, Just what would make you drive from Rochester NY to here, a 3 plus hour drive? I would gladly go the other way (and I have) to see the museums, Kodak, the great zoo, Lake Ontario, tons of shopping. But I am not seeing those here. I mean there really is not a lot here.

I made a day trip to Scranton last year. The Everhart Museum and Nay Aug Park are worth a visit. This year I plan to visit Wilkes-Barre. You should explore your region to be ready for a job search.

I think the Pajama Factory would make a nice tourist attraction if they created a permanent exhibit or gallery of art. They also need a cafe or a restaurant nearby.

I think pine creek is quite nice Jeff. minus all the drunks who flood the area during fishing and hunting seasons of course. I bike up there quite often. Bike! Not motorcycle, forgot about the slobs that make those rt-44 bar runs all summer long. Locals driving trks are the least of my concerns.

We get thousands of tourists a month. Go to Wegmans at lunchtime and fight your way through the crowds of Asians and Indians. See the busses by Burger King and Sheetz—same thing. The problem is, the way we've got downtown set up, it's uninviting to leave the safety of the Wegmans/ Kohl's parking lot to venture downtown. 3rd Street is dreary. There's a couple of jails and the bus center and no indication that there is anything beyond that. All of the new development in that area has been to make it easy to get off the highway, eat, use the toilet and get back on your way.

"I have heard that alot of people visit Williamsport to sell drugs!"

Not just that Jeff, a lot of folks coming here from miles away to buy those drugs. Then stop in a parking lot, maybe Wegman's with those tour buses, and shoot up. Then when good and high, they hit the road for home on one of the highways. Makes one feel really good about heading out to get groceries or take the family to a movie or something.

paycheck, you must never have been up pine creek if you think it is nice now...I live they and it has gone rapidly downhill since the gasholes arrived. Not only do we deal with the gasholes throwing trash out of their vehicles, driving excessively over the speed limit, loud truck traffic 24-7, roads that are now nothing but pot holes, motorcycles that rattle your windows as they drive by, loads of drunks in buses touring the bars, campers from out of the area who think nothing of walking through private yards with their dogs to take a crap, or to pull up along the creek, get out of their kayaks and drag them across private yards...gee I can go on and on about how nice it is in the pine creek area. Please, I hope no one promotes it any further for a tourist area because we locals are the ones suffering.

You sound awfully familiar with the routine. Any chance it's a cry for "help"??
