As passed by the Congress:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of State:

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

Problem: there's disagreement as to the 'correct placement' of the commas. It seems there are several 'correct placements' of the commas. As such, there are multiple interpretations for the founders' intentions for this ammendment.

""A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.""

[ A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, ]

Yes in order to keep a secure free State a well regulated Militia is necessary.

[ the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed ]

Yes in order for the People to regulate a Militia

the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed

Wow... when we put the Comma's in the right order the Second Amendment is easy to understand.

No support from the NRA, no election for you. Sad but true. It will be interesting when money starts coming in from the other side. It will happen. Of course then we have the opposite problem. Here is a suggestion, keep big interest money out of politics. Like "Buddy" Roemer said he would do if elected president. He was one of the good guys in the list of clowns that the republicans had last presidential primary. I doubt if anyone remembers though, they were too busy with stupid.

With 25 comments so far I would like to point out something I think is very telling.

Support for Erik's 6:05 comment, and then sideline's 7:08 rebuttal both presently rate at about 50/50 each of about 25 votes a piece.

I think that is pretty amazing for comments on this forum which generally slant 2/3 (or more) to the conservative.

Considering that just this week we saw the failure of expanded background checks to pass in the Senate, I would hardly call barely 50% support a victory lap.

The times, they are a changin'.

Shallow and uninformed, as usual, Erik. Keeping working, though, one day you'll earn your big boy pants

You have a nice day too.. off to Fairfield Honda.

Jeff I suggest you read all of the Second amendment not just the part you like to cite. Regulate is in the Second amendment.

Buff:

The constitution does not allow the federal gov't to set the speed limit at 55.

That is why they used the threat of witholding highway funds (collected by the states) if states did not change their speed limit.

Liberals used THREATS and MONEY to impose their unconstitutional will on the people.

Have a nice day.

Buff:

I don't have time for more.

Besides, your side are cowards on the issue and hide behind a cloak of supporting firearms for hunters.

This cowardice was shown to be true based on the Senate votes this week.

Why is it when we were debating voter IDs we were using the same arguments, only the opposite sides. I am beginning to think we just want to argue just to argue.

"All we ask for is registration, just like we do for cars." - Charles Shumer

"If I could have banned them all - 'Mr. and Mrs. America turn in your guns' - I would have!" - Diane Feinstein

The right in their refusal to close background checks loops, reduce the size and fire power of guns and the clips they use are in fact making it easier for criminals or to commit a henious crime. The Second Amendement allows for regulation or to regulate those who oppose any measure on guns are against the second amendment.

Erik, I have NEVER heard from ANYONE anything about confiscation of all weapons from civilians. If you are privy to these conversations, please, as BuffTrev requests, cite speaker and date. We'll be waiting...

Speaking of jerks, Rick, now that you have been reminded of what actual terrorists do, are you willing to reconsider your accusation that the "NRA are terrorists"?

I just decided not to register my car for fear they will come and take it away.

Hey did anyone read what Rep. Nate Bell(a republican of course) said; “I wonder how many Boston liberals spent the night cowering in their homes wishing they had an AR-15 with a high-capacity magazine?”

You go get them tiger, what a Jerk.
