YOU SHOULD BE THANKFUL FOR SMART PHONES OTHERWISE HOW WOULD TEENS BE ABLE TO PASS A TEST AT SCHOOL OR DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN MAKE UNWANTED BABIES.

What are 11 year olds doing with cell phones, smart or otherwise? Who do they really need to call? Seriously?

Isaac Asimov had it correct in his short story "The Feeling of Power" from Robot Dreams. (His works have been published in nine out of ten major categories of the Dewey Decimal Classification.)

In the 50s & 60s, kids spent their time in the basement listening to records. Parents worried they would miss out on socialization.

This is not a new phenomena....just a new toy.

"It seems to me that if you provide your kids with a cell phone and unlimited use of that phone, you don't have a strong argument to b*tc* & moan about how much & how long they use them." - CaymanJim

In this day-and-age, when younger-parents are constantly reminded that every-other-person (on the street) is a molester, I can understand the need (those parents feel) to provide that link to their children.

Maybe, one day, when it's no-longer hip to be paranoid, children will benefit, as well.

It seems to me that if you provide your kids with a cell phone and unlimited use of that phone, you don't have a strong argument to b*tc* & moan about how much & how long they use them. You've left the genie out of its bottle & it's gonna be tough as h*ll to control it from here on.
