"God-given rights to own firearms."

not sure which passage in the bible this is. Anyway that was funny, in fact this whole article is funny. Maybe a very early April fools story? I think politicians should be on other missions. Pretty soon there will be legislation that will make it a crime to take pictures of farms, oh wait that is already in the works House Bill 683. Good job guys.

You have a "God given right" to defend yourself, Rick. Firearms are just a tool used to defend yourself against a wide range of foes. The United States Constitution acknowledges that we have certain God given rights and defending yourself by whatever means necessary is one of those rights. Firearms being one of those tools. My decision to own a firearm that has a large capacity magazine and the ability to fire round after round with each pull of the trigger does not infringe your rights in anyway unless I break an existing law. Why do we need more laws to enforce laws that are already on the books. What we need is more law enforcement officers on the job.

I'm not sure where "God-given right" to defend yourself is in the constitution, specifically the bill of rights or any amendment afterwards. I'm not sure the word "God" appears either. So I think you are confusing the bible with the Bill of Rights. I can't say for sure, but I don't recall the Bible coming right out and saying you have the God-given right to defend yourself against a wide range of foes either. Although it does say homosexuality is abomination, and people should be stoned to death. The 2nd amendmant gives you the right to bear arms against the militia. Any other rights you think you have for arms aren't defined from the Constitution so stop using it as your evidence of "rights". This isn't about taking your guns away. If you aren't crazy and haven't committed a felony, have all the guns you want. But it shouldn't be harder to get a driver's license than it is to buy a gun.

By Ted's logic, there would be no DUI laws. You'd have the right to drink as much alcohol as you want or can, then so long as you don't speed or cause an accident, you didn't break any law.

The anti's make me laugh, because when the SHTF they'll be the first ones running to the gun owners for help.

This lawmaker should have paid more attention in US Constitution class. The Supremacy Clause in Article VI Clause 2 establishes federal law the supreme law of the land. It has been uphold by the Supreme Court on more than one occasion. Federal laws are supreme law of the land and any law passed by a state to override them is unconstitutional. The right to own a object whether it is an alarm clock or a firmarm or a frying pan is a god given right?

Hmm… that is a new one. Guess some folks will say anything now days if it meets their positions… Good thing they don’t let facts get in their way or actually worry what Lord says about coveting objects.

So you support unconstitutional laws? I thought supporting the Second Amendment was all about support the Constitution?

What now we only support those parts we agree with, and be*****the rest. Sorry, it doesn’t work that way. You should have stayed more alert in history class. The south lost that battle 150 years ago.

Josh. I'm citing the National Archives transcript and 7th grade level social studies textbooks. Again, I'm asking you what you believe the 2nd amendment says since you have simply said FALSE to my definition, and make what I think is an attempt at sarcasm when you say that I display a solid foundation of information on the issue. I'm really curios now to your version of your 2nd amendment text.

@Eric, i don't have a version of the 2nd amendment, there is only one "version" that being,

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Nowhere are the words, for protection against the militia. as you opined.

I applaud this move. Remember "323 people have been killed by modern sporting rifles, 195,000 have been killed by medical malpractice. This makes Obamacare 604 times more likely to kill you."

Josh looking back I do realize I transposed that thought, yes a well regulated Militia having the right to bear arms versus having that right to bear arms AGAINST that militia. That is my fault. The sentiment is the same though, there is no finite blanket right to bear arms, especially for sportsman. My argument is not to say you shouldn't have the right, but no single person is a well regulated militia. Even if you could argue you were well regulated, this was written in a time when the reach of state government took days to reach part of a state, and local government was in its infancy. You were just as likely to defend yourself against the King's army from your home as you were in the military.

I want to have the ability to go get a gun, I want others to have that ability to. I don't see the harm in intensifying the research on someone's ability to obtain a firearm, that doesn't deny anyone's right to the firearm. Honestly, if tougher regulation saves one life, it was worth it. Law abiding, in good mental standing individuals, I dont see any reduction in one's ability to own a firearm.

eric, if you had a bout of depression and it was documented by your physician, yet you are better and in good health otherwise, would you like to have your second amendment right usurped? What many fail to realize is that the second amendment was not for hunting, target shooting or protecting yourself from personal attacks, although by extension the right to bear arms includes those, the amendment was to ensure the populace be able to be armed against an oppressive and overreaching govt. You have to remember that our founding fathers were dealing with such a govt in England and our separation from it was helped by an armed citizenry.

I'm fairly-certain "God" doesn't (really) have an opinion on the matter.

It's time for those pro-gun super-fans (who's development was fully-arrested at 13-years-of-age) to find some other excuse for guarding their paranoia.

Grow a brain nrshaman, if you want to live your life clueless and defenseless, that's your business, better keep your cellphone charged up so when something bad comes down, you can hit 911 for help, don't worry help will get there as soon as they can, whenever that is.
