Gun control

May 9, 2013

Lately in the news we’ve seen stories of young people in schools being expelled, suspended, and even arrested for pointing fingers, shaping paper or Pop-Tarts into the form of an “L” or even throwin......

With as many video games depicting combat situations that are on the market these days, I doubt children of today would be indoctrinated to fear guns all that soon. If anything, I feel that the graphic depiction of killing human beings in these video games has contributed greatly to the ever increasing occurrences of the mass killings we are seeing in America today. We are programing these kids electronically to accept that it is OK to kill indiscriminately. If you're depressed and have thoughts of suicide, time to play "Call of Duty" in real life to see if you can top the last mass killer's score or body count. You want to change these future events? I would start by asserting my parental authority by limiting the violent content of the video games my kids play and then head to the board rooms of Hollywood and the video gaming industry.

I Agree Tedeaux. Unfortunately, they offer little else in video games/ movies anymore. They need to come up with alternate non-violent games that are challenging and interesting to kids in thier teens. I don't think video game systems are going to go anywhere soon,so it would be nice to see some better games offered for kids, minus the violence. The same goes for movies/TV programming.

I wonder if the schools would still pass out con*doms if they had a picture of a gun printed on them!

The Obama Administration wanted us to believe the murder of four Americans in Benghazi was the result of a video, but have made no such link to firearm violence.

I guess videos only incite violence when they poke fun at special interest groups.

Fear? Guns are not toys. My sons were born in the 70's. No guns, period. Today, as adults, gun ownership is a choice. I see weapons as any other adult choice. Te days of "cowboys and Indians" is long gone. "Indoctrination" to either side seems inappropriate. ( I am not objecting to kids hunting with adults who do so).

Blaming the teachers union for teaching our children to fear guns. Where do you people come up with this stuff. I just googled it, and guess what? Glenn Beck.

There is a clear effort to portray civilian ownership of firearms as dangerous and a contributing factor to the homocide rate.

Given the crime statistics published by the gov't this week, there is no truth to the liberal lies about firearms.

With record sales and millions of more firearms in the hands of civilians, firearm crime rates are dropping.

FACTS --- liberals worst nightmare!

This letter makes no sense what so ever. He admits he does not attend school board meetings but he knows how rules are formulated in schools. He left out a very important instigator of rules in schools, the parents.

He compares the fight for the Second Amendment to the installment of the rules in schools.

The latest is the suspension of two 7 year olds for pointing their pencils and saying bang as they were playing on the playground. One was the son of an active duty marine and they were playing war. Talk about paranoid..........

Too bad the schools are staffed with and run by so many people suffering from the mental illness of liberalism.

My kids had holsters and cap guns and water pistols (as did I). And no, they didn't get in trouble for having them at school. As adults they are ALL (including daughter) responsible owners of guns AS WELL AS veterans of military duty. None of them have ever been in trouble with the law.

Rick the word is indoctrination and it is happening in schools everywhere. Maybe you are too uninformed to understand that.

It really seems that Shaman, Reeder and other libs on this site would be so much better suited to live in Cuba. No guns, the best government-run healthcare system, communistic rule - a liberal eutopia. Why on earth would you stay in the US with all these guns around??

Darlin, Erik said the government. The federal government can not conduct a study on guns the NRA successfully blocked the government from doing so years ago. The study is from the Pew Research Center. It is not a scientific study it was done to go along with a poll they took on people's feeling about homicide rates. Pew admits that the rates are still the highest in the developed world.

In 1985, during school shop class, we used to learn how to make sand molds and pour molten ingots of metal like aluminum into the mold. Then we would wait for the product to cure and cool and then, we would separate the mold and polish the rough edges of the piece. I made a replica of a Model 1911 handgun from a broken Crossman BB pistol out of Aluminum. I still have it. I cannot imagine what would happen to me, or the shop teacher, if one were to try to do that today.

One of my favorite out of control leftist gun story is the one involving the six year ol little boy who got expelled from school for drawing a picture of a gun. Reactionary leftists on display here. They should first rent a brain, and then rent a life. sheesh!

I am a Democrat and I own many guns. That means any and all references to all liberals or all leftists is invalid. The problem with those statements is they are rarely accurately portrayed. Not all Democrats want to limit the size of a soda, to suggest otherwise is to acknowledge that every crazy thing said or proposed by a republican politician is therefore true. Do all republicans think women should be forced to accept the child as a consequence of rape? Unlikely.. Is it correct to suppose conservatives support pedophila in light of the Catholic church scandals regarding pedophile priests and their unwavering support? Of course not.. the problem with statements like these is it absolves the author from any perceived moral responsibility to tell the truth.
