Ok, I'll play along.....What is a Kennedy King and why is it unfortunate?

Kennedy King was a section 8 (welfare) housing project located just west of Williamsport Village that kept the police rather busy. It was torn down a few years ago when the land was sold to private commercial interests.

Apparently a new housing project was announced for the west end. I missed that story.

Thanks for the explanation Vince. Is there a shortage of drug dealers on the West end of Williamsport that a new Government subsidized housing project is being built there?

Wonderful. I work in that area, and was glad to see the housing facility go. No more worries about kids riding bikes and skateboards around our cars in the parking lot; apparently they can't read the signs stating that it's not permitted. Reminding them of this when we caught them resulted in an "F" you, and other expletives.

Well, if it's a government project, it will take forever to build, so I guess we have time before the nonsense starts up again.

Those bothersome poor people. Why is Loyalsock able to maintain sanity and property value? As to kids on bikes and "f" expletives, do you really believe this is only "welfare" kids? Guess again.

"Those bothersome poor people"

Excellent Spike.

spike, you are correct in your assertion that not only poor kids display poor behavior and language. I would guess part of the reason that PennVale (sp.?) has fewer problems is that younger state troopers live there. I do remember when the current housing project there was completed that one of the contractors told me that as soon as folks started to move in there was destruction of doors, windows and walls. I believe that when you give somebody something for nothing they don't take care of it. Found that to be true when I bought my kids their first cars. Destroyed them. Made them buy the next ones and they take care of them. Simple. Personal investment results in personal discipline.

Let's give the project a new name: Obama Pelosi.

Seriously speaking, are we talking about the "Brodart Housing Project". Listen, all these places say "We don't allow drug users" or whatever, and we all know better. Now I'm not saying the only people who live in projects are drug users. I'm not saying that at all, I'm sure some legitimately good people live in them also.

As far as the children using expletives that's bad parenting. I will say this, the Projects in Williamsport, if you've ever lived in them or been anywhere near them, you will know, are some of the most criminalistic areas in Williamsport. Timberland, The Village, etc. there's a reason the cops have to constantly patrol the areas. There is a reason they are frequently in the areas in general.

Do you really think, are you naive enough to think, that it won't be the same with a new project? We need less projects and more affordable REAL housing, that isn't being handed out to people who are just sitting on welfare because they are too lazy

rather being offered to those who need affordable housing and work for a living to support themselves and/or their family.

@spike2 - poor does not equal bothersome or ill mannered. Bad manners and lack of respect for rules and authority knows no income limit. All I can tell you is when the housing unit was shut down, there were no more problems with unruly kids.

There is ample evidence that free anything results in little or no gratitude.

I truly feel bad for those honest, decent citizens who are trapped in these hellholes.

But, this is what socialism offers to all of housing and no law enforcement.

Concentrate population in a relatively small area and the crime rate goes up. Should the housing authority have their own "police" or 'security"? Probably as an adjunct to other police services. Is reasonably priced, uncondensed housing going to occur in Williamsport? No. Can you have a small city with only working and retired people? No, until and if jobs exist that produce enough income to pay rent and utilities and reasonably priced apartments exist in this area. We need some type of alternate solution. "Projects" have never worked as an optimal housing solution. Conversely, where do you want people to live? It's a bit simplistic to say get a job and pay rent. Do the math. Anyone have real workable ideas instead of utopian nonsense?
