When I saw the title the SG gave this letter I thought maybe it was going to be about something along the lines of an old Seinfeld episode. Imagine my disappointment.

Noibud, as I have said these organizations are great and do help, but they can not do it all. There is no way people will donate that kind of money to these organizations to do the kind of work the government does.

It's difficult to donate to charities with the multi-layered way we're taxed to death. Kill all but local taxes and use trickle-UP funding for counties, then states and THEN the federal government. We get DC back to serving us by making them live within their means. In effect, the federal government gets 'block grants' from the states.

Preferably one not susceptible to the weakness of human nature, such as the greed and*****for power that you've pointed out as a failing of democracy.

Jerry:

The problem in your analysis is that those elected represent themselves first, and their district/state second, from both parties.

We have career politicians, from both parties, in office who seek to enrich themselves.

That is not a true representative republic.

Alright Phil, I'll bite.

We've all put our faith in ourselves. Yeah for us!! Then one day there is a dispute amongst people that they can't seem to resolve, no matter how much faith they have in themselves. Surprise!

How do you propose they solve the dispute Phil?

Fight it out? Richest guy wins? Church picks the winner?

I say they do it with a government they've built by electing people to represent them. People still have faith in themselves AND they have faith in the government THEY'VE built, because THEY built it.

But go ahead Phil, teach me your way.

It is unfortunate that Robocop's view of future Detroit was too optimistic.

Anarchy has never been a suggestion or principal I’ve supported; government limited to its proper function of protecting our rights isn’t anarchy by any stretch of the imagination. I offer faith in one’s self to counter your faith in government comment.

Isn't putting our trust in government run by people we've elected putting out trust in ourselves?

Or are you suggesting anarchy, Somalia style.

rick, it is not the act of helping the poor that bothers me and most conservatives and libertarians, it is the fact that we have spent trillions and trillions on it and have nothing to show for it. We have tried the govt spending model and it doesn't work. I think it is time to look for alternatives, don't you? Well run charities are much more effective in helping the poor than the govt, so why not look to them for help in aiding our poor? I just don't understand why there is such resistance to looking for alternatives to govt intervention. The behemoth that is our fed govt has failed miserably in the task of alleviating poverty and needs to be replaced by a working and efficient model.

Some on here seem to have no problem using tax dollars so the gas industry can lay some new lines in South Williamsport to benefit the gas industry and a very few customers but have all kinds of problems helping the poor. Conservatism at its finest.

Come on Bobbie, where is your outrage?

We've got a real scandal on our hands, and I'm not talking about a fake scandal like the birth certificate, college transcripts, being secretly gay and married to a homosexual and any of the other wing nut crazy train theories. You've a legit one now man with this IRS thing, tell me you are not all outraged out. Say it isn't so Bobbie.

How else are we ever going to get to have a President Biden.

enigma and nobud, you are both wrong. there is no way the salvation army could handle all the poor in this country. And where would this millions come from? Donations? Well I like to see how that would work. And let us bring up the flood that you brought up. Do you see those organizations giving million, no billions of dollars to help rebuild communities? I don't think so. Again I think these organizations do a wonderful job but they can't do it all. Not sure what is so hard to understand here.

This letter's title reminds me of a certain Seinfeld episode. If the SG's editors choose the title, and it was chosen to make such a reference, then that is DARN funny.

Well payed gentlemen.

"Jerry the dolt"

--

How did I become simply 'Jerry the dolt' and not 'Jerry the liberal dolt'?

Upon reading my manifesto did you decide I leaned to far to the center? Did my support for a federal flat tax and block grants to states lose me my liberal letter "L"?

Bobbie,

Please, do go ahead and make your case as to why we should abandon the system of government we have now and put Kmart and Wal*mart in charge.

I await your case for Corporatocracy.

"In Government We Trust"

--

What are the alternatives? We choose our leaders by election. Someone have a better idea to offer?

Perhaps we should trust the Church to tell us how to live. Oh, which Church are we going to go with? Should be quick agreement there.

How about we put out trust in the corporations? Maybe we could just put the rich people in charge, or maybe the poor people.

How about the people with the most guns.

So, unless you've got a better idea, I'm sticking with the government run by the people we've elected.
