Offer made for baseball field's naming rights

Erik it's funny that you say that the Mayor said to me "If you can find someone willing to pay more, let me know".

I can assure you that I could get one of the resident gas companies to beat that offer.

30K for advertising for 38 home games. Not exactly cheap advertising. My suspicion also is that this company is doing this for public relations as much as advertising.

This should been a public bid. IMHO it appears to be a back room negotiation.

According to our Mayor, no one else other than the business that apparently they reached a deal with was even interested. (Maybe because it's Williamsport?)

On a side note, he had nothing to say about the continuous burden he's placing on citizens with taxes, the hockey fiasco, the rising rate of shootings within the city, or anything of those types of importance. Most of his responses were 1 sentence in length after his initial "Omg you hurt my feelings" response to my initial email.

He also said that whatever business agreed to the deal, is the only business that would agree to keep 'Bowman Field' in the name. He doesn't say whether the deal they took was actually the best offer or not.

According to Mr. Campana, yes I actually emailed his office this morning and firstly, he's upset that not every email he gets is a kiss a**, you're doing the best job any mayor ever has type email, he says he's been working on this deal for over a year. He says that other clubs do in fact make more money on similar deals but the difference is that they aren't short season clubs.

Seriously what is wrong with Campana? He has real control issues and needs to be shown the door. He worked on a deal to bring the city money? That's great! But take a step back and get some help reviewing it in a timely manner. Don't shove it down everyone's throat b/c you "can't see why anyone would deny it". You are NOT a business man. Your hockey deal proves that!

And, Lee, probably not. If I understand the problem correctly, the issue is with the condition of the field and after yesterday's downpour and more on the way your kid won't be able to play there.

Naming rights for sports venues is common and needed revenue for local municipalities which often shoulder some financial burden for those venues. It would be easy enough to find out what other similar ball parks are getting. Perhaps someone here would have the time to do that and report back. It would be interesting to have the facts instead of supposing guilt or stupidity. (Still not a fan of Gabe, but at least this helps the city coffers.)

Okay - if there is some extra money for the ballfield - can the Backyard Brawl play there????? Seriously, it really is a big deal to some kids to play on a field that size... 'nuf said

I concur with fromtheport. OBVIOUSLY the “good doctor” is an expert in elementary education--- NOT business management. One would hope that he learned a valuable lesson as a result of the last “fly by night outfit” that took the City for a ride--- BUT one never knows whose back is going to be scratched by our mayor. SOME of his appointments to city administrative positions clearly display that his favors aren’t based on quality and solid performance ---just a thought.

Hate to see the name Bowman field go away. Used to go there to see the Grays. And who can forget 3 Dog Night. 30,000 seems in the ballpark for a very short season minor league club and the other extremely small fan base sports. Bottom line, IMHO,*****it up, keep the field named Bowman.

$30,000 a year??? Listen I know this is not a Major League team or an NFL team but when you put it in perspective, Pro Level teams get paid MILLIONS to rename their team. $30,000 doesn't equate at all for what a minor league level team should be getting. Typical of our local government. Some how, just like it's being done via the School district, this is going to screw the citizens again.

Campana, just take a step back and let someone else review the deal, your nilly-whilly style of manageing this city is harmful believe it or not, now i have no idea what naming rights are worth, but I am guessing this is the first offer you got and your pressing for it to try wipe the memories of the money you lost us on the hockey team. I am also guessing that this first offer is extremely underpriced for nameing rights and in a few weeks we will learn the realvalue could be twice what we are getting, and why be secretive about what company it is? Just asking for you too slow your roll on this issue so the city doesnt get ripped off again.
