REC was the reason we bought a stand by generator, we lived on 87 for 5 years and lost our electricity 14 times.

I'd be ok with using social media or the REC's website for system outage updates. But not everyone would be able to access the internet during a power outage.

An easy communication link that many people could access would be the social media links such as Twitter and Facebook. A webpage that gives realtime updates also is another alternative.

Understood that TCREC was not at fault for the outages. But I would like there be a better system for informing members of the status of outages.

With widespread outages like these, the REC's phone system is quickly overwhelmed. And when one does get through, I'd like there to be, before the options, a recorded update of the system status. Also, if the outage is not system-wide the substations that are out. And, most important, an estimate of when power might be restored.

I'd also like the REC to consider having an arrangement with several local radio stations to broadcast updates and information on locations where there is power ... for getting gasoline for the generator, ice for the freezer, food, etc.
