I'm guessing my 35+ years, in manufacturing/engineering, has given me a "little"-more insight than some "editorial"-writer who's making mere assumptions.

I'm not sure why the govt has to be involved here. If a company has the option of providing this type of compensation to their staff, what is the problem? To mandate it will have severe considerations. As an employer, I do not have extra staff to cover the work described by CaveFelem in his scenario. If I were mandated to provide this type of compensation, I would hire more part time workers and make my full timers unable to get overtime. This is not being anything but pragmatic. I must continue to run my business and if I have people who take comp time rather than overtime, I do not have the staff to run my business so I eliminate the possibility of comp time. In the end, the worker is hurt by govt intervention.

Never thought I would agree with Shammy. World must be going to end!

As a private sector worker, I'd like this option, but I understand it might not work for my employer.

Let's say I accumulate 80 hours comp time, and I want to take 2 weeks off. Who's going to do my work while I'm gone? It has to be done, so that means my coworkers would have to pick up the slack while I'm out or my boss would have to hire a temp. I think some companies would balk at paying leave time and hiring another person to cover while the full time employee is taking comp time.

Hmmmmm...so this (apparently) "conservative" option of instructing employers how to manage their business/employees, is "different" from Liberals (instructing employers on how to manage their business/employees), is what???
