Oh boy, here we go again. We can only hope Melissa skips this issue of the SG.

This is just one of those subjects that people are never going to agree on. Some value life, some don't. Some take responsibility for thier behavior and some don't. Some don't feel they should have to pay for other's irresponsibility, some expect it. I don't see any of this changing anytime soon.

Writers like this make it easy for Melissa to recant their story. Tax money isn't used for abortion. Tax money does, however, free up other money that can then be used for abortion. Yes, most of us know that it's only on paper in creative accounting practices that show tax money being used for other things. But the reality is that if it were't for the tax money paying for those other things, organizations like Planned Parenthood wouldn't be able to fund abortions.

"However, I, and the rest of the working tax payers shouldn't have to pay for your abortion."

Yes! And people that don't agree with war, or the death penalty shouldn't have to pay for those either, because everyone knows that's how taxes work. They only take taxes for things you agree with.

Tell someone to "keep their legs closed" is a sure sign of a small mind. What the author and others conveniently ignore is the presence of a male in this scenario. There cannot be a pregnancy without a male, so why is the woman so derided and the male allowed to escape culpability? That is the societal question I have.

It is incredible what the SG allows to be printed.

Nobud, i agree. Prople used to wait until they actually had feelings for someone before they did the deed. These days it's just a "booty call" no feelings necessary. It does take two, but it's easy for men to just walk away. (not all do, by any means)Women on the other hand, are left with the results if they don't take the steps necessary to prevent it. That puts the ultimate responsibility on women, as unfair as it is. Society has downgraded the act as being something "special" that two share to something everyone does just for the heck of it. No commitment necessary anymore, just a casual thing.

nobud74-"so why is the woman so derided and the male allowed to escape culpability?"

Perhaps because the man, once his 'donor' activity has been completed, no longer has a say in what happens. I agree, the man is just as responsible for the pregnancy as the woman and should be held equally accountable. But since he doesn't have a say, one way or another, what happens with this pregnancy, it then falls on the woman who holds all the power in the decision as to having the baby or an abortion.

NoBud, I could agree with you completly if the man had a say in the women having an abortion.

Excellent comment TGrammie. What was once held as a expression of love between a husband and wife is now nothing more than a recreational activity, many times between two total strangers who just happened to hook up for the night.

I disagree, nobud. If you don't want to get pregnant and have no other means of birth control to use, 'keep your legs closed' sounds like some solid advice to me. And it can be directed at the men too.

And no one ever had illegitimate children or abortions in the past. Someone will surely jump up and attack minority birth rates next. Plessy vs. Ferguson - 1896. Seems the Christians and voters were not concerned then but expect only "love" and marriage today. Interesting.

Mike, this subject hits close to home for me. Last Thurs. my 1st great grandson was born. My grandson & his girlfriend will both be 16 on June 9th.(he's 3 hrs. older than her,LOL)Her mother tried to force abortion, the kids decided no. Was timing optimum for these kids? NO. BUT, these kids are in love and commited to each other and have been. My grandson has mowed lawns, shoveled snow, washed windows, to provide for this baby. Together, with support and love from both families, they will do just fine. They want to marry as soon as possible and i have no doubt they will. BC was used by both of them, they were that lucky .9% it didn't work for. He's the cutest little .9% you'll ever see though! ( proud Grammie Sr.)

"And people that don't agree with war, or the death penalty shouldn't have to pay for those either," Both the taxation for capital punishment and war are included in the Constitution. 5th Amnd "nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;" for war, Artical ! 1 "[Congress shall have Power...] To declare War,"

But no where can I find anything for abortion unless you us the 5th amnd, but then it would require a court hearing for the "due process of law".

Excellent comment mike. "One night stands" are not unusual in movies and even on TV. I watch little TV and haven't been to a movie since 2001.

Kids have picked up that it is ok to have sex 5 minutes after you meet!!!! And many schools are re-inforcing it with their free con doms, birth control, and info handed out on abortion and now the morning after pill.

Promiscuity, incest and unwanted pregnancies have taken place throughout history.

What separates humans from animals is our ability to master our environment and our destiny.

We all love to eat. But we must also learn to control our intake or we may develop medical problems, including death.

We all love sex. But we do not teach moderation here.

Instead, we teach about sex as if you were learning different ballet moves. By "teach" I mean society as a whole, including teachers, commercials, movies, music, etc.

So, where mankind has made an effort to control our difficult-to-control desire for foods, we are making no effort to control our difficult-to-control desire for sex.

Erik - I assume you are referring to unmarried folks? I agree in part. Unfortunately, even though we try to educate folks re: food, etc. we are not seeing much success. Suggestions on how to limit both beyond informational reading material? You won't see television or movies about moderation. Moderation simply does not sell. U.S.A. - curious, what do you do for recreation? You haven't seen a movie in 12 years? What movie just ended it for you? There still are some good movies.

MelissaBrown-"You pro-lifers btch about abortion and now you btch about easy access to birth control. I am sick of your stomach-turning BS. Really. If women had more access to birth control, don't you think the abortion rate would be lower?"

Who complained about birth control? USA mentioned it only as a reference to the schools and government promoting promiscuity.

MelissaBrown-"As for tax money freeing up "other" money to be used for abortion, GET OVER IT! Your precious tax dollars aren't used to pay for anyone's abortion. So what if "other" money is used; it isn't yours so STFU."

Keep telling yourself that. The rest of us know the truth.

MelissaBrown-"...it isn't yours so STFU. Might I suggest that Mr. Lockett mend his insulting ways and keep his mouth closed."

"STFU" and you have the gall to say Mr. Locket ought to mend his 'insulting ways'? Pot, meet kettle.

"I, for one, detest abortions and the murderers who have them"

+++

Why detest the people? Even when Jesus was going to be crucified by the Roman solders, Jewish leaders and people, he asked the Father to forgive the people. Jesus' death on the cross didn't give license to hate other people nor think that you (we) are any better than them.

We still need to have a system of justice to deal with the Dr. Gosnell's, get laws changed to protect the rights of the unborn, forgive those that ask for forgiveness, ask God to heal the guilt and pain for those that repent and seek Him.

MelissaBrown,

You might be an interesting person to have a cup of coffee with sometime to know what makes you tick, what life experiences have formed you, why you think like you think, likes/dislikes, what motivates you, etc. Such passionate opinions would make Margaret Sanger proud.

Tgrammie, I wish your grandson and his girlfriend well. I pray that they beat the statistics that say they won't stay 'together' through high school. I commend him for doing his part for caring for his child. He's already proving he's the exception.

Why am I not surprised that conservatives don't understand? Democracy cannot live side by side with the control of government by private monopoly. We must choose, on the one hand, between representative government, with its guarantee of peace, liberty, and economic freedom and prosperity for all of the people, and on the other, war, tyranny, and the impoverishment of the many for the enrichment of the favored few.
