"Online Booty Call Park" has a nice ring to it.

If having naming rights brings in monies needed to help keep the field in shape, what is the big deal? it's an outside source (not taxpayer pocket) to make up for the cost of upkeep. Shoot, be happy someone would want to do that. It's great PR for the company involved and a win for the stadium... get over it, people..it's called PROGRESS.. highest bidder gets to name it and when that contract expires, the next high bid gets it... it happens every year...sheesh

*****no I wouldn't suggest that an indoor facility would be a less expensive testing ground Sham, that's just stupid. A less expensive test..would have been to not do it at all." - wwhickok

Ah, yes...the ol' T-Bagger dictum: "All Or Nothing"!

You folks DO realize you're an aberration o' the people who'd (actually) RISKED building this Country, don't you??

Magic, that's all well and good except the decisions the Council has made over the last year + HAVE cost the citizens money.

"Sham, are you really that naive?

First of all the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc are major bigger scales in comparison to Bowman Field. Secondly...how many teams do you see out there experimenting with putting hockey rinks on their field then making the tax payers clean up the mess?" - wwhickok

Re: Bowman - It's all about money...and, maintaining the place. Business-being-business, "just wouldn't be right" has never BEEN Priority One. I'M being naive?

Re: Hockey - It was an experiment. You'd suggest some brand-new, indoor-facility would have been a LESS-expensive testing-ground?? We'll recover...and, Williamsport will EASILY retain their absolute-dread of anything new-and-different.

No matter what name change is given to Bowman Field, it will always be just that to me and many others, just like the LCPL Whatever Bridge will always be the Arch St. Bridge. Anybody who finds fault with that is in denial and just lying to themselves.

TTFP, good suggestion. Dottie, you need to understand that there is change. It is not 1954 any more. Evolve, change and adapt or get run over. Without beating around the bush, there it is.

Hate to burst you bubble but the naming rights to bowman field were discussed in the last city council election before this most recent one. Waaaaay before any hockey team was brought here or even discussed. And honestly what does it matter what the field is called it will still have bowman field in the name. It's a chance to get money for the city without any cost to anyone!

Now they're offering naming rights, imo, because they screwed the pooch so bad and are trying to make up for it to the tax payers to secure reelections imo.

"I agree with you. First of all, the Mayor and City Council screwed up with the whole Hockey thing and then they made tax payers pay for damages to the stadium, and now they want to go get more revenue for the city by selling naming rights. Talk about greed..." - wwhickok

Yeah...before you know it, (even) the NFL might succumb to such "greedy" behavior!!!!

Actually, I'm there to watch the ball game and have a beer. I really don't care what the name of the field is. I have always loved the atmosphere at the ball park.

Texas, I actually agree with you and I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic or not (I assume not) but I'd absolutely support something like that. If the citizens of Williamsport were to buy the naming rights, that'd be interesting, very interesting to say the least. If 1/4 of the Cities population (10,000 people give or take) gave $20, that'd BEAT the offer made by this 'mystery company' of $150,000 (by $50,000 for anyone not quick at math). We, the City of Williamsport, would then control the naming rights of Bowman Field.

"Airman Pond" was a catchy name.

Why couldn't it be Weatherford International's Bowman Field?

Dottie,

Maybe you can start a group called "Keep Bowman Field", get each member to donate $20, and then make a bid to buy the naming rights.
