The projection

June 6, 2013

“You didn’t build that”. There in lies the problem with President Obama and most liberals. Their projection of other people is seemingly based on their own failures in life....

""The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together"

And there is the point of the speech."

Fancy that Hayes...and now he does everything without anyone.

" These are the words without punctuation. "If you got a business you didn't build that somebody else made that happen"

At least agree upon what was actually said. Then battle over how to interpret it and what it means to you."

Because there are so many ways to interpret what someone says, the best way to figure out what someone means is to read the statement in context. If someone is trying to portray what the President said as meaning that business owners have no part in creating a business, then ask your self what the President meant when a few lines later he said:

"The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together"

And there is the point of the speech.

Get rid of the spin, the deception, the twisted meaning, the context framing, the adulterated text versions, the mis-punctuated renditions, and go listen to it yourself. Go google "you didn't build that cbsnews" and look at the video yourself. DavidBross, your version is wrong. CHayes, I agree don't look at the FoxNews version that is turned into a political swipe.

These are the words without punctuation. "If you got a business you didn't build that somebody else made that happen"

At least agree upon what was actually said. Then battle over how to interpret it and what it means to you.

And at the end of the day, it is all temporal and will pass away. Vanity, vanity, all is vanity. Put your hope and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and follow him.

"The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don't do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That's how we funded the GI Bill. That's how we created the middle class. That's how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That's how we invented the Internet. That's how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that's the reason I'm running for President -- because I still believe in that idea. You're not on your own, we're in this together."

David paraphrased what was in the speech Wayne, and oddly enough his paraphrase more closely aligned with the overall meaning of the rest of the speech, than the selectively edited clip that Fox "News" looped ad infinitum.

I contend that those video clips were NOT 'selectively edited', but actual footage of the speech, as presented. Reading the speech would show only what was SUPPOSED to be said, not what was ACTUALLY said.

I suggest you go read the entire speech Premiere, rather than rely only on Fox's selectively edited video clips.

Who needs 'selectively edited video clips'? I watched the speech live, and the words 'by yourself' were emphatically NOT in the speech as presented. It may have been written in the speech to be presented, it may even have appeared that way on the teleprompter, but those words NEVER CAME OUT OF HIS MOUTH DURING THE PRESENTATION OF THE SPEECH. I know you're going to call me a liar, but why would I invade your territory? I don't need to do that. I and anybody else who actually watched and listened to the speech as presented know the facts concerning the incident.

Spike,

Out of the heart, the mouth speaketh....too often I've been only a student and one who never graduates from that school of Biblical projection...when referring to the heart. No, I can't possibly know the entire heart of anyone, including my own. But, actions and words spoken, more often than not, show one's intent (heart) motive/agenda...

Actually Erik we had the same info in 2008 and were able to expand through voter registration records. Our contact numbers did not come from D.C.. I worked on the campaign and am certain re: this fact. Voter registration is public info.I could explain in greater detail. The GOP was more tech savvy than in 2008. They were not very good at the ground game in the first run.Everyone was targeting in the same manner in 2012.The GOP failed to work GOTV early enough in certain areas. I would love to know more on data mining and am hopeful we will hear more from company owners, CEO's, as well as release of exactly what is accessible, when and how. I did oppose the Patriot Act, did you?

David, to refer to a quote that was not made.

"You didn't build that by yourself."????

Yet you put in in quotations like Obama said those exact words.

Can we start doing that with all quotes?

Spike:

The money in politics is an issue. True transparency would help quite a bit, but there is another issue.

The Obama campaign did a great job with data mining voter information.

I hope there was no collusion between the Obama Administration and the Obama Campaign in this matter.

Just imagine the amount of information at the fingertips of the Obama Administration that could have been incredibly useful to the Obama campaign.

I believe the author has, perhaps intentionally, left out the part of that quote that adds the idea that "You didn't build that by yourself." That was an important part of the point Obama was trying to make. Personally, I believe that anyone who says that they accomplished something by themselves is either a child or a fool.

Chayes,

I made no statement agreeing to the fact that the IRS did nothing illegal. IRS, Govt. invasion of privacy....all tying together, quickly Chris...and your voted for elected leader is stumbling and rambling...it is not I.

Spike, I agree that many at various levels of responsibility can't possibly know all. Where we differ is this President already has a lying track record about sooooooo much and he does not have this country's best interest at heart, because his heart is Islamic. This is not about national security, this is about protecting "the change" Obama wants for America.

It's not just the financial backers. Our pols do no homework or reading on their own. They rely on career underlings to guide them and tell them how to vote and so while the office face changes nothing else changes.

There is a difference between 'handlers' and 'financial backers', they are not necessarily the same person.

What I think nobud is referring to is the people who get to influence the leaders and their agendas. It is not always in the best interests of the nation or it's people.

Interesting study on young people and who they see as leaders of American political parties. For the Democratic party they cited Pelosi, Obama and Reid as leaders and for the GOP they cited Limbaugh, O'Reilly and Beck.

nobud - I agree. Part of the problem is politicians need financial backing. Our elections could significantly reduce the debt.We are bombarded with advertising whether a election is national or local. Does anyone here feel they need mailers or phone contact, info from a super pac or endless email to make a decision? Once someone takes huge donations they are indebted and we all know it.

And then of course Relene, the problem with your little court analogy is that the IRS did nothing illegal. So my question to you is will you be applying the rules of curling to your next supermarket visit?

Spike our leaders are puppets who are told by handlers what to think do and say. As I have aged I have come to understand this and that is one reason I am so upset by our govt on both sides of the aisle. I am an equal opportunity hater.
