The projection

June 6, 2013

“You didn’t build that”. There in lies the problem with President Obama and most liberals. Their projection of other people is seemingly based on their own failures in life....

"You" indicates the business owners Obama was addressing in the speech. What is the "that" they didn't build?

They "didn't build" a case of hemorrhoids sitting around waiting on government handouts.

Obama and other Liberals do not comprehend the idea of someone making a living with only the work of his own two hands. Obama and other Liberals think government paving the road that leads to someone's business means that he didn't build that business on his own. This of course ignores the fact that the taxes that person paid to the government had a lot to do with paving that road to his business.

If paved roads are the only reasons businesses are built and a good chuck of the stimulus money was spent of roads unemployment should be 0%.

Hmmmm.......

"...government paving the road that leads to someone's business means that he didn't build that business on his own."

Reading the actual speech, its hard for me to draw that conclusion. It seems pretty obvious he's saying yes, you bulit your business on your own. And government built the interstates, ports, airports and other infrastructure that help that business succeed. It wasn't denigrating business owners in any way.

Seems a little simplistic. Roads are not the reason businesses are built, its the exact opposite. And then it seems you imply if all infrastructure was 100% no business would ever fail. Rather an "all-or-nothing" argument that doesn't actually apply to the real world.

"Obama and other Liberals do not comprehend the idea of someone making a living with only the work of his own two hands."

Speaking as someone that is currently starting one business, and working on starting two more Vince, I'm here to tell you that you have absolutely no idea what's involved in starting a business. NOBODY in the US starts a business without a great deal of their own work, AND a tremendous amount of help and input from others.

If conservatives are only interested in what they can do with their own two hands, why are we having a national discussion right now about groups of conservatives that are complaining it wasn't easy enough for them to obtain their government subsidies, and further, that without that subsidy they wouldn't even have the power od speech?

PS Vince. Once I secure a property and get my retail business operating, I plan to put up a website for that business. On that website, I will have a page dedicated to acknowledging the people that helped me out and made it possible for me to achieve my goals. It will be a VERY long page.

Businesses aren't created in a vacuum.

Tell us about your business boobie. The other day you implied that you owned a manufacturing facility. Is that true, or would it be more accurate to say that the manufacturing you're involved in happens in back of a fast food restaurant?

The clear meaning is you create your business. Every business is then dependent on some other form of goods or materials. You receive mail, you ship in or out, you use some type of phone service, you buy office equipment, on and on. I agree you build your business through your own labor and hard work. Conversely, no one builds a business without dependence on goods of others. We as owners of any sort of business create our own consumer base but do use the services of others to do so. The point is every business owner is dependent on other businesses. Isn't this a good thing? Many businesses thrive because of the needs of the next business and the need for their goods or service?

Government exists to provide the rule of law, infrastructure and self-defense that allows business to prosper. If that were all that was needed everyone would be prosperous.

The current Republican plan for America's success seems to be take a tiny snippet out of a Presidential speech CLEARLY out of context, then argue about it for a year or more while the wheels fall off, then blame Democrats for starting the argument.

Doesn't sound like any brand of personal responsibility I've ever heard.

It's a strange thing to revisit at a time that conservatives have been arguing that the IRS apparently builds conservative political businesses. Remember, there is no free speech without tax subsidies.
