RMiller,

I don't disagree. My comments were aimed towards the LTE writer to consider different/similar situations.

Hi Texas,

"Let all things be done in moderation."

Women are not to be arrayed in costly apparel, and should be dressed modestly and with shamefacedness. Obviously, again...context is importance. When we become "the focus" we are drawing attention to ourselves, as opposed to Christ in us. It is a thin line.

Tattoo?? What about women that have tattooed eye lashes? Well what about cosmetics like fingernail polish, makeup, mascara, eye liner, toe nail polish, hair glitter, hair dye?

John,

"Leviticus 19 (in-general) can be somewhat amusing! "

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of a living God.

John,

"Like, right before you launch into another rant, about The President, prompted (as usual) by his "appearance".

John, why don't you sign up for Secret Service detail and step in front of any lethal weapon that might bring injury to Obama...your admiration/obsession to him is disconcerting.

Loveyoumama,

"Wow wtf ....I understand you not wanting to make every letter a political thing. But, most of the posters here don't use the terminology, whether abbreviated or not that you just referenced. That also is not necessary. :)

do I have twenty or so other holes in my body because of some insatiable need to bring attention to myself? The issue is context/moderation/heart motivation.

The writer is correct with respect to the Bible's word on "defiling" the body. Will a tattoo keep someone out of heaven, if they are saved? Certainly not. Mike is correct in that some of the laws in the OT were given specifically to the nation of Israel. However, as Mike has also stated, many laws (such as sodomy) were given in both the OT and the NT. For instance, the Ten Commandments. They were given to the nation of Israel initially, but became "law" to both the J e w s and the Gentiles. Even setting aside all the laws in the Bible and just focusing on the Ten Commandments, not one person is capable of keeping even those ten. Which, is why we need a Savior. Here's the thing about tattoos. As Christians, we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are to present our bodies a living sacrifice, without blemish or shame. I had my ears pierced when I was younger and I have mixed feelings about that. Do I wear pierced earrings? Yes. But...

You really need to get the chip off your shoulder. No one is going to show up at your door with a noose and a burning cross. You are the biggest racist on this forum.

Johndis-"Does that include Leviticus 18:22? Or does that one address everyone?"

No, no one will be stoned for being a homosexual. But homosexuality is first a Moral Law (as opposed to a Ceremonial Law) and second is addressed elsewhere (IE 1 Corinthians 6:9) and is still a sin.

Whoah! Who'd have guessed??!!

THAT could have been our "excuse", back, in the late-60s/early-70s...that we were (merely) making EVERY effort to take Leviticus seriously??!!!!

Appearances and respectability. This LTE focuses on the outside of the person.

1. Do we behave a certain way, dress a certain way, follow certain rules so that we fit into society, strive to be accepted by others, and try to convince ourselves that we are "good enough" that surely God will accept us into heaven?

2. Or do we have a renewal inside our heart and being such that we earnestly seek God with all our being, abide with Him all the time, take up our cross daily and follow Him and then as a result the appearances and fruit on the outside will align with what behaviors are advocated in the Bible?

Are you playing Christian or are you really a Christian? Trying to appear respectable can be one of the biggest sins. Time for all of us to do some self-examination of our heart.

10. And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger

27. Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.

Chapter 19 of Leviticus starts out by saying: "The LORD also said to Moses, "Give the following instructions to the entire community of Israel. You must be holy because I, the LORD your God, am holy."

The verse on tattoos, like the prior verse 27 on trimming beards, was addressed to the Israelites. Some ancient cultures would tattoo or paint the body to ward of evil. God wanted the Israelites to be set aside and look different from other tribes and cultures to help show that they followed God.
