Thanks for nothing

June 9, 2013

I wrote a previous letter chastising the school board at Jersey Shore for unbridled spending. After reading the newsletter, it appears I was wron....

My but your grapes are sour... Take a look at the WASD PVASS growth rates. Look at the fact that Williamsport has more National Merrit Scholars than any school in our IU. Understand that williamsport has laid off dozens of teachers and eliminated even more positions through attrition. Also understand that these building projects are done with long term loans that have very little cost to tax payers. By the way that glass area you mentioned is over the library. Want to get really torqued off? Go look at the hospital!

Sour Grapes (Michael Gohrig) should probably send his "drunkin sailor" emails to the Sun-Gazette instead of firing them off to elected officials. I would think that the wonderful words of gratitude would be omitted (all the profanity)??? What a man of such great character and compassion for the "education" of students in his community???

This man is a goofball...

Not every taxpayer is fooled by your arrogance and ignorance sir. The Elementary in town needs work and YES...the students and faculty deserve a "safe" environment to learn in....just like your children are! Enoughalready...

SalladasburgDad is correct!! Mr. Gohrig is like many others who are willing to criticize both Williamsport & Jersey Shore School Boards, while failing to prove he could actually do a better job. It is offensive for Mr. Gohrig or anyone to imply that these Board members who actively run for this thankless and unpaid position are not interested in balancing the benefit to taxpayers AND students. Just where do you think School Board members reside. Duh? Yes, Mr. Gohrig, they live in the same school district where you accuse them of arbitrarily raising YOUR taxes! Do you think that their taxes don't increase by the exact same percentage? Until you volunteer to take on this task for no compensation, you really are on a lower level than those that you criticize.

What you all are missing is why is education in this state and country declining? And as for you, BassMan, where do you think the money for the loans comes from, might be sold as something else but the money comes from taxpayers...all grants, etc.

Pinecr, Feel free to enlighten me. Why is declining? More testing and less critical thinking? More time in test review than actually learning? That school district has made monumental and radical changes. Somethings cost money.

You know what else costs lots of money? Prisons. Would you rather we spend more money on that or on our kids? As for me, I would rather spend it on the kids. If you feel you can do a better job feel free to become a part of the solution.
