Using your tax money to pay to investigate your political affiliations is like making the convict pay for the rope you hang him with!

This is not a liberal vs conservative issue.

The next Republican administration may use similar tactics and illegally collected data against liberal groups.

This is about a gov't that sees itself as master over the people.

This is how nuts the Tea party is. How did the government stop you? From all indications those targeted tea party organizations still exist and they also got their tax free status. There are members of Congress who came from the Tea Party.

The only ones who say that one person built the US is the Tea Party. 'Only individusals built the US, government does nothing for us'.

Reeder you apparently don't even understand what the Tea Party was all about. It is obvious that you are a government leach and probably have been all of your life. For those of us who pay taxes, taxes and more taxes to support the freeloaders, we understand what "TEA" Party stands for. You promote a government who is trying to eliminate the opposition, i.e. Republicans. To Obama, the war is on Tea Party, Christians, Patriots, Republicans and he supports the Muslim Radical terrorists. What is wrong with this picture?

No political group on either side should be considered a Non-Profit****anize and go door-to-door if you want to spread a message and talk to people. No one wants additional mailers or phone calls. We throw enough junk mail in the trash now. Anyone here want more?

The 'one person' to a Tea partier is the individual. There is no 'we' in the Tea Party they all individuals.

Two observations. Apparently Ida isn't aware that only 96 conservative political organizations were flagged for extra scrutiny last year. The other 202 organizations flagged for extra scrutiny were NOT conservative organizations, and this was out of over 60,000 applications for special 501 tax exempt status. Those numbers don't exactly scream "persecution" to me. They scream understaffed. EVERY political organization applying for a free ride on the taxpayers should receive "extra scrutiny". Political organizations are NOT "social welfare" organizations.

Second, it would seem that Ida feels that without a free ride from the IRS (a handout), her freedom of speech is somehow inhibited. I don't have a free ride. I work and pay taxes, and my freedom of speech works just fine.

Good letter, Ida. Some will never allow themselves to admit that there is a large movement out there that opposes the ever-growing government they love, so they’ll use whatever means they can to narrate them out of existence.

TEA Party - TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY. What part of that don't you libs get? We pay over half of our paychecks to support you freeloaders and you still want more. Of course the government needs more tax dollars to keep them in power and to keep our illegals in free healthcare too all the while we are paying top dollar for our healthcare and getting less of it. Just another pesky fact

You know boobie, you are neither good with math, OR understanding anything about 501 organizations. You're a little bird that keeps perching on this number of "27,000 in 11 years". Yes boobie, there were 27,000 501(c)(4) applications in 11 years, but that does NOT represent the total number of 501 applications in any given year.

A 501(c)(4) is just ONE narrow category of 501 application. There were over SIXTY THOUSAND TOTAL 501 APPLICATIONS LAST YEAR NOT 60,000 501(c)(4) applications. IOW, you're either a moron, or a liar. Which is it now?

The theme underlying all of government’s scandals is the abuse of power, which leads to a lack of trust in government in the minds of ever more voters. The left doesn’t seem to care because they’ve been so successful in using narrative to keep themselves in power.

Can someone explain to me how a political business that doesn't receive a special 100% tax exemption, is having their right to free speech restricted?

Again, I work, I pay taxes, and my freedom of speech works just fine.

You want to do something? What can we do that will make a difference? All of our electronic communications are monitored so anything we do, the gov't will already know about. Want to march on Washington? You have to get a PERMIT from THEM and also provide security. So you have to ask THEM for permission to march on Washington.

And get over these "scandals". The rule of law doesn't apply to this gov't or their employees. They can lie and ignore any investigations and lie some more. "We, like sheep, have strayed and fallen short...." of our duty as Citizens. Patriots are now the "Enemies of the State" and our Representatives in the gov't have forgotten us, except at election time. The Founding Documents are meaningless to most of those in Washington.

"I want to begin this newsletter with an angry protest.

When disagreeing or wanting a change in our government(s) then we must speak up and not be afraid that they will put us down or try to stop us, such as the IRS thought they could do." - Ida M Temple

Whatta shame this is (apparently) the only news-resource you consume, or....you'd KNOW the Tea Party was never singled-out...but, they WERE suspected of running a hustle, by a REPUBLICAN IRS-agent!!! Besides that...

"Based on what I saw at the time, this organization is something — I don't know what it is, but it is something that appears to be growing, some type of movement," Muthert said. "So when I was asked to research the Tea Parties, it was like OK, I understand why you would want me to look at these cases and see if there is going to be a million coming in or not."
