I was included in a Verizon class action suit regarding 3rd party billing (cramming) on landline phones.

Of course, Verizon was all "Oh, we had no idea this was happening". Uh huh. Back in the early 2000's, companies started putting bogus charges on Verizon bills. I was scammed by OAN Services, and while it wasn't a great deal of money, only about $28 total, it was the principal of the thing. I was charged for services/phone calls I did not agree to and did not make. I notified Verizon, and they said I should have known to add 3rd party billing block to my phone.

It's too bad the attorneys who brought the case will benefit so much. Verizon should be held responsible for this crap. They knew it was happening, allowed it to happen, and profited from it.

-con't The consumers who were victimized and had to fight for weeks or months to recoup their money from scammers like OAN Services should be compensated with the lion's share of the settlement, not the attorneys.

Perhaps if companies were truly punished when they turn a blind eye to fraud, maybe they'd think twice about simply ignoring it.
