That animal waste being spread is a lot less harmful then you spreading a gallon of weed killer on your corner lot while it rains and washes it directly down the storm sewer into the river we as farmers use 1 gallon of killer diluted with 200 gallon of water to cover 10 acres so do the math whether you like it or not I guarantee you pollute more so go ahead and slide your mouse over to the agree and click

"If an outhouse poses no threat to others, then they fall into a category which should be off limits to those with nothing better to do, than to make life miserable for some 77 year old gentleman..." - Weldon C. Cohick Jr.

...Much like marriage-equality, right??

I am surprised that this is the only [rp[erty with an outhouse in the heavily Amish-rich area of Lancaster.

Duh, I am a republican, I have my rights, I don't care about your rights just as long as they don't affect my rights. I love these arguments.

I can't wait for the day when big government shows up at Chuck's house demanding he do something he doesn't want to do!!!

Maybe he can donate the outhouse to a museum and take a large enough tax write-off to pay for the septic system!

You hit the nail on the head!

Outhouses are evil, polluting sources of disease.

Composting toilets (invention of environmentalists) are the next great wonder and should be forced upon every citizen!

In reality, the two are not very different.

Except, one makes money for a handful while the other does not.

I didn't see the story, but I have to agree it should be within his right.

As a kid I mowed grass for an older gentleman who lived not too far from me in an old house. I noticed the old hand pump well on the back porch but didn't think too much about it nor did I think too much about the shed out back. I was rather surprised when I found out that the home had no running water, and this was back in the 70's.

If someone doesn't want running water I don't see why they should be forced into putting in a sand mound.

And what about composting toilets?
