*Misread an email I received, hence the reason my comment is a day late and dollar short.

I'm glad however to see that the Meeting that occurred on 6-29, at 4pm, was a success.

Myself and z3rocool will be meeting with the Mayor this Saturday, at 4pm, at Memorial Park. I challenge each of you to your "money where your mouth is" and show up. You want to make a difference? Prove it.

"Once again I have to agree with you. Dang, that hurt!" bud

Me too

"Perhaps some outside of the box thinking is in order to have the reward be great enough that the kids want to do it." bud

It's also a good lesson to teach young, that you appreciate things more when you EARN them rather than have them given to you. Too many kids these days have no concept of EARNING.

So, let's do it.

Let's create a community actions group. I'll get with WXPI radio, and the Rise-Above group today. (Both groups were driving the event yesterday in Memorial park). They can indeed help us get traction in terms of marketing to the community, and creating the forum for us to make impact.

We will create “opportunity” for our youth.

We will not be complacent. We will be proactive. We must find a way to educate, and instill responsibility.

I'll post an update here based on conversations with WXPI and Rise-Above.

Wes - awesome job in getting this started.

How about making access (to these recreational-options), for children above a specific-age, membership-specific; i.e. access/membership gained thru community-service?--Sham

Once again I have to agree with you. Dang, that hurt!

Perhaps some outside of the box thinking is in order to have the reward be great enough that the kids want to do it. Good suggestion Sham.

"Someone recently suggesting creating a 'Youth Group' that serves this exact purpose, I believe it is a fantastic idea, something that truly needs to happen. Taking from the kids in the way of the local swimming pools, basket ball hoops, and anything else that frankly keeps them out of trouble, is not the answer to steering kids in the right directions." - Wesley W Hickok

How about making access (to these recreational-options), for children above a specific-age, membership-specific; i.e. access/membership gained thru community-service?

FIRSTLY, such a process would require an education on what the EXPENSES are, to provide these recreational-facilities. I'd imagine MOST children have no idea.

Next...access (to these facilities) would be dependent-upon verifiable-participation in various community-service programs.

Getting more-"creative" (about punishing children), shouldn't be our Top Priority.
