I don't care if you're a convicted felon, have a domestic violence record or are medically diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. Not only should we oppose universal background checks, we should do away with ALL background checks. After all, they do nothing to deter crime, right?

Only Chicago has those laws the surrounding counties and cities do not making it easy for anyone to obtain any fiearm they want.

Further studies have found that Lott's study was flawed and that a right to carry a conceal weapon doesn't do as he purposed. It did not increase or decreased crime.

Chuck, coc-aine and her-oin are banned both in Chicago AND in surrounding counties. Are these items therefore rare in Chicago or have I just debunked your argument?

Liberals believe in a multi-class society.

Cities & states with the most stringent laws on firearm possession still issue licenses for the wealthy, the politically connected and celebrities.

Further proof is liberal congressional opposition to living under the same laws that the people must obey.

Our tax code is intentionally complex so certain classes of citizens can pay less in taxes than their peers. This is why liberals oppose a flat, no deduction tax system.

Even Obamacare incorporates classes of citizens as evidenced by the waivers granted for liberal groups.

So, when liberals talk about gun control, they only wish to control the firearms in the hands of ordinary citizens. Liberals will still possess any firearm they desire.

There is nothing wrong with background checks. There are very few jobs that can be obtained without a background check and a drug screen. The constant "Founding Fathers" line, is frankly ridiculous. They also did not foresee world wars, industrialization, medicine beyond quackery, interstate highways, and on and on. The document was created within their world view. Would you accept placement of leeches every time you are ill? We change with the times or we stand against change.

This is from the CDC report;

"The Task Force's review of firearms laws found insufficient evidence to determine whether the laws reviewed reduce (or increase) specific violent outcomes (Table). Much existing research suffers from problems with data, analytic methods, or both. Further high-quality research is required to establish the relationship between firearms laws and violent outcomes. Potential areas for further investigation will be discussed in detail in an upcoming article in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine."

The NRA effectively stopped the CDC from conducting any study on it's own about guns and gun violence.

The CDC report is a complilation of other studies and they found they were all insufficient and flawed.

Sham- Is there something wrong with being a Conservative Revolutionary? It was those kind of people who gave us this unique (in their day) country. If they would have been like the sheeple we have now, we'd still be singing "God Save The Queen".

That's what Porky Limbaugh says, huh??

Where DOES he find the time to "channel" Liberals, like he does...and, is he still doing-so, thru Oxy-induced "sessions"?

Well...they TRIED...and, "those kind of people" were referred-to as Tories; ultra-lazy defenders o' (the convenience of maintaining) the Status Quo.

Much like today's T-Baggers, those "conservatives" ALSO fell for the sales-pitch that, they...TOO...could become (those time's) 1%ers/high-roller$...eventually...if they did what they were told.

I think it's fairly-obvious, to most, we STILL haven't managed to breed that Tory-DNA out of our general-population.

Just how did it debunk it. You did not just because you said so.

While this is fun. I do have better things to do on this celebratory day. Have a good 4th and a safe one, remember how thankful it is to be an American even if we disagree.

I am out of here for the day!

If universal background checks are "anti-gun", then the obvious implication is that many people buying guns are criminals that wouldn't pass muster, and you either support arming criminals, or you just want to sell guns and don't care to who.

The majority of card carrying NRA members support universal background checks. Virtually all gun manufacturers oppose universal background checks.

All you have to do is look at the position of the NRA to understand which constituency they actually support. Their own members, or gun manufacturers.

"Is there something wrong with being a Conservative Revolutionary?"

Are you saying you want to murder people again? I believe I advised you on that problem the other day.

And conservatives are NOT "revolutionary" by definition. By definition, conservatives seek to preserve or restore the old way of doing things. Conservatives look backward, NOT forward.

"Revolutionary" ideas are new.

"Just how did it debunk it. You did not just because you said so."

NO! I debunked it by citing an example of an item that is banned in the "surrounding counties" yet is still widely available in Chicago. This directly refutes your assertion that Chicago's gun bans don't work because the bans don't exist in adjacent counties. Items that are widely available and desired don't disappear because you make them illegal.

I really didn't expect a valid, fallacy-free argument from you, Chuck. You have demonstrated countless times you're utter lack of ability to posit one.

My comment is a reply to spike2.... Progressives love to present our Constitution as a living document, one that changes with the times. This proves they are not well versed on its true meaning.

Our Constitution is as near perfect a document as was ever written. It has no need to change with the times because it's perpetual.

The reason progressives think it should change is because they have given so many additional responsibilities to the government that were never intended to be part of government.

From his list, only the highway system is valid because providing a stable infrastructure is a function of government. They are to protect us from foreign invaders (how's that working for us?) and provide a stable economy, so we the people can take care of ourselves.

Under our Constitution the government has very limited powers. With progressive influence, it has become an all-encompassing nanny state.

Now my comment on the lead topic.

Background checks are the least of our worries. Gun owners may as well face it, gun ownership by the average citizen will be banned within this decade. Communist states don't allow its citizens to own guns.

Even if we should be fortunate enough to dodge full blown communism, what the progressives have in store for us still means confiscation of all guns.

I guess you never heard of this amazing new technology called "cars". You can actually throw a large box of something in an enclosed storage area, usually in the rear of the "car", then jump in and drive the goods to a neighboring state in a few hours, or even minutes depending on your location.
