What she fears most

July 6, 2013

I received an E- mail the other day I found to be most interesting; it was a women testifying before some committee and she said that she was not afraid of the crook at her door robbing her, because......

"The one thing that politicians are afraid of is united and informed voters;"

They prefer the mindless liberal sheeple who only care about their next handout.

Unfortunately, people with these qualities are a rarity in the District of Corruption!!!!

Both parties are so corupt I don't think they are interested in finding someone of good character with morals and honor. They want a frontman they can use as a puppet to do thier bidding and forward thier agenda.Just a mindless person that looks pretty will do.

Well most on this board know that I've been a supporter of term limits but I get responses that it's the people that set term limits with their vote. Well I'm sorry but we are doing a lousy job. The longer they stay in office the more corrupt and extreme partisan they get and they infect the freshman politicians in their ways.

"...let's elect men of character and morals," - Ron Dudley

So what would those "character and morals" look like?

"...I get responses that it's the people that set term limits with their vote." - GysgtUSMC

I am against term limits and one of those who believe we set term limits by our vote. We, the voters, limited the terms of Sen. Santorum and Rep. Carney when they no longer represented their constituents, but as a generally, it is almost always someone else's representative who lacks "character and morals". I think House Minority Speaker Nancy Pelosi is one of the worst representatives we have in Congress and would love to see her term limited, but the people she represents see it otherwise and continue to reelect her to office, as is their right.

let's elect men of character and morals, God-fearing men with integrity.

Right there's the problem. None of them ever run for office. If "none of the above" was on the ballot he'd win every time.

I'm with Gunny here - term limits are a good answer. Trouble with that is, the people we would be term-limiting are the ones that have to vote for it in the first place. None of these career politicians that "represent" us (<--that's sarcasm, CHayes) would vote themselves out of a job.

I have said this before - I think the job of elected representative does not pay enough. Think about this. The salary is less than many companies pay their senior management. So few that are really qualified run for office because it would be a pay cut. The biggest reason (IMO) that people run is for the perks and the attention, not because they want to do good for their country.

Or am I too cynical this morning?

Vince, I'm afraid you're right, the way people are "vetted" by the media and their opponents, many don't want that for their families or themselves. And I'm sure some would say that if they have nothing to hide, they have nothing to worry about. But we all have done things in our past that we aren't proud of. What do I care if a person smoked a joint 30 years ago or a man or a woman had an indiscretion they regret. But the media and the other side latch on to those things and make them more serious than they are.

You're also right about term limits and the ability to get that law through Congress. Wouldn't it be nice if we the people had the ability to vote for measures that directly effect congress such as term limits and pay raises.

We Dems call them "throw-away" candidates (See: Dole, McCain, Romney), and Republicans do a GREAT job of producing them!!

Here we go again. Mr. Shaman you are a prime example of why nothing gets done on Capitol Hill. The right does this, the left is superior. They have this country exactly where they want them. Towing the party line and cheer leading their cause without an ounce of thinking for themselves. Babble on Mr. Shaman, you make the rest in your club look like servants to the masters in Washington.

It starts with an 'e-mail' about women testifying and then only repeats what 'she' said. Then the fears the government not criminals. Then ends with a plea to only elect MEN of moral character to public office.

Then the right has the audacity to label liberals as sheeple.

For those that don't support term limits, just look at the approval rating of congress before an election and a year or two after an election. The American people consistently disapprove of the job congress is doing, the same congress we put in office. So I ask, are we doing a good job weeding out these career politicians and bringing change to Congress. I think not. We approve term limits for our president who we can also vote out, but not for our representatives who have just as much power if not more in my opinion.

That is true, but those same polls also show that most people are happy with the job that THEIR Congressperson is doing.

There were no term limits on the President until the death of Roosevelt.

A Supreme Court Justice is a lifetime appointment.

The Constitution gives the power to the people to elect their representatives to the House, the Senate came later through an amendment. Elected officials get voted out all the time. Gerrymandering lets elected officials keep their elected offices longer. Gerrymandering lets political parties keep majority hold in legislative bodies.

Term limits will not solve the problem you site. You only take more away from the voters.

We could pay more income tax if the city and school district wasn't constantly increasing taxes.

We could pay more income tax if the city and school district wasn't constantly increasing taxes.

We could pay more local taxes, in fact we'd pay ONBLY local taxes if the tax structure was correct. Top down has proven to be ineffective, so let's pay all personal taxes to our locality, whether city or township, which pays to the county, which pays to the state, which pays to the federal. It would certainly make the 'higher' levels of government more efficient, don't you think? We absolutely don't need such a duplicative, enormous and overreaching federal government!
