Natural gas, honey pots!

July 7, 2013

I have read enough articles and letters in the Sun-Gazette to finally feel forced to educate my fellow citizens. There is no Utopia. Most benefits to our society and lifestyle have some drawbacks....

Good points. Mr Myers, I hope that you have tough skin and that your feelings aren't easily hurt because I am sure that some will disagree with you, maybe even vehemently.

Agreed! Once the enviro-whackoes who post here regularly get to this letter, there will be scathing responses! It is a good letter, making some very good points.

Bobbie, that is a great image!

Good letter, but get ready for the unicorn believers to chop you down. Don't you know that if we just have windmills all will be well with the world. But, how do we make the parts for the windmills without energy--mining, processing of the mined ores, drilling for oil to refine to make the plastics needed for the wires, coatings and many parts of the windmill. I really believe these do gooders have no clue.

Good letter from pro-gas. What happens when everyone produces gas and less produce food? What happened to trade? What does happen when everyone produces gas and produces less of other products. Is anyone really going to deny that deforestation increases temperature? There are lots of valid arguments on both sides and some that are completely invalid. As to "Star Wars" or the old "Star Trek": How many of the items they had are really available to all of us today. No one ever thought we would all have cell phones for communication, nearly everyone would have computer terminals, the ability to map and access data. Granted, we are not zipping thru galaxies yet but we have private companies developing trips to the moon.

I'll have to admit, I was on the fence regarding this whole issue. But once I saw that the pro big government were lashing out at the EPA and DEP and saying how corrupt they are, I thinking maybe their on to something.. FINALLY. See

What some have no concept of is the risk/benefit ratio. Everything we do has risk, but if the benefit outweighs the risk we go ahead with it. In the case of gas drilling here or anywhere else, the benefits far outweigh the risks if one does an objective analysis. It's a good letter.

The problem is you don't want to minimize the risk only get the benefits.

Mr. Myers needs an education. You are still dependent on fossil fuels no matter where they come from.

“The problem is you don't want to minimize the risk only get the benefits.”

That statement shows utter disregard for reality. No company today would proceed without minimizing risk for any number of reasons. First of all they care about their personnel and the environment. Secondly they are all heavily regulated. Thirdly, any kind of disaster would cost far more than they could possibly gain from not minimizing risks.

Hey Gavin, I am not a NIMBY anymore, and I am still against it. As for commenting on this, I will not waste my time. Beautiful day isn't it!!

I knew tis letter would bring out the incredibly stupid enviro-whackoes, but I thought we'd see them display some of their idiocy instead of just doing what they do best, merely disagree with the truth.

This is a very good letter. The only thing that Williamsport needs to do is to start creating jobs outside of the gas industry. I'm actually a software developer and I'm surprised in the lack of IT opportunities in Williamsport. Information technology is just one of many examples of where Williamsport needs to expand.
