Values matter

July 8, 2013

There are many of our laws that are intended to control or influence an individual’s behavior. Laws ought to punish infringements upon other’s rights, not attempt to influence behavior....

Apparently, 'mean' in your lexicon 'means': 'RIGHT'! Thank you for agreeing with me! Maybe you're not as dumb as others say you are!

Talk about mean

Here's YOR usage of the word. Is it the same? NOPE!!

... who doesn't even know what that means!

You have reading comprehension skills problems, indeed! Above is the sense in which I used 'means', which is NOT the same sense in which YOU used it! YOU used 'mean', in the sense of unkind, nasty, intentionally rude and inflammatory. My usage of it was in the sense of the intention of a word, what a word is intended to represent. See the difference?

Nobody who knows me personally would characterize me as 'mean'. Most would characterize me as reasonably intelligent. Most would say I'm kind. Many would say I'm stubborn. Most would say I have the courage of my convictions. Plus, who presented a LIST of choices he believes in, in order of his priority, and who just went straight to name-calling and denying the list even existed? It was a list of 'choices', and asked, with just one 'choice' that you asserted, and FIVE in my list, who is 'pro-choice'? You need to look up definitions of 'choice'!

Again Wayne you are petty and very ignorant and you don't believe in choice. Talk about mean, you should know you are very mean.

Believe what you want about me. It doesn't change who I am, nor does it make me who you claim I am.

Who's opinion offers more choices, and is, therefore 'pro-choice'?

NOOOO! I misused the contraction for 'who is', instead of the correct form of 'who', which is 'whose', Sorry....

Would you really like to discuss who's 'petty and ignorant'? I know I'd like to do that, but it would be darned near impossible to do that with one like you, who doesn't even know what that means!

ABSTAIN has some qualifiers to it, too. Once you're married and are financially able to support a family, not a single or live-in situation, where stability too often goes out the window for the children involved. Until such time as you have a SPOUSE and some degree of financial stability, ANSTINENCE should be your first course of defense from 'unwanted pregnancy'.

Reeder's idea of 'choice': ABORT.

Wayne's idea of 'choice': ADOPT OUT

RAISE CHILD

ABSTAIN

RESPONSIBLE BIRTH CONTROL

ABORT, AS A LAST RESORT!

Who's opinion offers more choices, and is, therefore 'pro-choice'?

Gee Wayne all you are going to get me for is misspelling and a skipped word. You are petty and ignorant.

You are not pro-choice because you only support one choice, there is no choice for you or for anyone else.

Mike you are not pro-choice

Those who have misappropriated the term "pro-choice" are not pro-choice! They are correctly identified as "pro-abortion", since that's the only "choice" they espouse.

OK, do I get to finish your statement, since you didn't? Here's what Reeder says, "There is nothing wrong with my reading comprenhension Wayne just in what [I] say."

By the way, my spell checker says that "comprenhension" is misspelled... (I have my share of typoes, too, but typically correct them when I notice them...)

Well Mike, we do agree on one point. It is absurd to able to be drafted and go to war or to be able to vote at the age of 18, but not be responsible enough to be able to have an adult beverage or a credit card without your parents approval until the age of 21.

As far as ToTex's remarks, it's still a strawman.

gavinf56-"That is easy, frontal lobe development/maturity. The prefrontal cortex does not reach maturity until around the age of 25."

So, then why isn't the age of consent 25?

And why do we try people under the age of consent as adults if they murder someone? Surely if they don't have the mental capacity to consent to sex they have no concept as to what they are doing if they kill someone.

I absolutely agree with ToTex. You may call them straw-man arguments, but they are valid points to be made that can't be legitimately answered if we are looking to give everyone the right to do as they choose as long as it harms no one else.

All that anyone is referring to is levels of decency not rights.

My question is do you allow an old standard of decency overrule a change in a societal attitude in decency? Does society have to wait for all the old guard to disappear before change can be implemented by society?

My next question, is discrimination a right? I do not mean just in a racial context. Is discrimination a mores, a tradition, a value?

It did not overturn federal law on drugs. People can still be arrested on federal drug charges.
