"The business plan projects 25 to 30 full-time jobs created by the arena, for a total of $360,000 a year in payroll."

25 jobs = pay of $14,400/yr 30 jobs = pay of $12,000/yr

The hotel is in a location that will only increase the traffic nightmare at Northway Rd and Commerce Pk. I hope there is a plan to fix that before the restaurant and hotel open.

Yeah, Faxon exit, Northway Road area is a nightmare as it is now. Not sure what they (PennDot) can do to fix it. I lived on Northway as a kid and young adult and it was always a busy area, but no where near the amount of traffic I've witnessed recently - there are some points in the day you are best to just avoid Faxon.

I tried to speak with Loyalsock Twp about the redlight situation, at 5pm on Northway Rd; heading south. There is a turning light that does not work. LTWP told me it was for the Fire CO and that is how they clear traffic when exiting from their station. They then told me to call Penn Dot in Mtvl. Well I did that too and was redirected back to LTWP! I simply asked that the turning light be made to function all the time to help vehicles heading south turn onto the strip instead of waiting for ten minutes in heavy traffic and 3 cycles of the lights. I hit a brick wall with them, but logic would point that the light functioning would be very beneficial. The FD could still use it just like they do now without issue. Maybe more people should call LTWP about making that turning light function properly. THat will be a start of traffic congestion ease.

I get a kick out of watching someone trying to turn left on that section of E. 3rd. Seriously? A left hand turn coming out of a business across 4 lanes of traffic? Are you insane? Or trying to turn left where there isn't a light. It's best to use an intersection with a light, even if it means going the opposite direction desired.

He is greedy. When he bought the Hepburn plaza he started making those people pay to park there. They never had to pay to park at their place of employment before he owned it.

I'm "fairly"-certain that was part of the proposal, when this project was initiated...much like every-other construction-project.

USABorn, couldn't have said it better myself. They act like the 'new jobs' are AMAZING for the city. Sure, people will take them because they need to work and that's completely justifiable, but the pay is going to be minimum wage or darn close to it, it's not going to be a 'good' job.

Furthermore Xeo, the last thing this city needs is more hotels. I like the idea of the Buffalo Wild Wings, although I'm a little skeptical of its placement, traffic coming off Northway Rd to merging on to 3rd Street is going to be a nightmare now with where the entrance to the parking lot of BWW seems to be planned, but I can live with the restaurant.

@Rick, Denny's has only survived because IHop, who has looked into real-estate in Williamsport didn't like properties that were available. If IHop ever hits the Golden Strip, Denny's will go out of business, you can pretty much take that to the bank.

@Sham, what kind of cookies?

Seriously though, the "Powers that Be" in this city are far too tourist driven, that's why all the jobs that keep becoming available are low paying restaurant and hotel jobs, not substantial well paying businesses that will really help families financially. These jobs are enough to keep the 'on paper' numbers up, but not enough to really help anyone who lives here.

Speaking of jobs ...

What America needs is more FULL TIME jobs, not part tiem. Many people work 2 - 3 part times jobs not because the want to but have to. That takes 1 - 2 jobs off the market right there for every one that does this.

Zippie, you're so right. But even then, some of these Full Time jobs aren't enough, I know several people that have held a full time and a part time (or even 2 full time jobs...which is insane). I think we need a balance of the two. Higher Paying jobs and more full time jobs. In some ways, the two issues go hand in hand. Really good comment there Zippie because I hadn't thought about it from that point of view.

what a waste of taxpayer money...yes, it is taxpayer money...where do you think grant money comes from...they can call it whatever they like, but it is taxpayer money. I am so happy to know that I am going to make him richer than he already is while we all struggle by.
