Erik if that neighborhood chooses to not have the program and turn their backs on police, that's their choice and that's fine by me. However, if other neighborhoods across the city do stand up and drive these guys out, then we will have more safer neighborhoods. Eventually, the crime will be centralized in a few areas and easier for the police to manage. And most likely these areas will be the ones where people don't want to cooperate with police. These watches are getting more popular across the country because people are fed up. Drug dealing is going on in almost every neighborhood and even some businesses. I used to bartend at a local establishment, and I was constantly running thugs out for peddling their crap. I don't know if people realize how widespread the drug problem is in this town. It's no longer confined to a few areas. People need to take their neighborhoods back. I don't know why you feel the police and mayor won't work with them. That's not the info I'm getting.

Regarding a community watch:

Remember what happened with the shooting at the basketball court in Williamsport?

Remember the crowd turning hostile to the police and mayor, chanting "we don't talk to cops"?

That is the attitude you must battle with a community watch.

But you won't have the mayor, police or Department of Justice on your side.

One incident and the Obama Administration will spend whatever it takes to organize the "we don't talk to cops" crowd against your community watch program.....just like they did with Zimmerman.

Spike, I agree with most of what you say and as far as his wife is concerned, by law she can not be forced to testify and if the defense didn't call her, many jurors may insinuate it's because she has something to hide. Having said all that I still think this case is overflowing with reasonable doubt and if the jurors follow the law, they have no choice but to vote not guilty. But, if I was a betting man, I would bet manslaughter and that's why the prosecution asked for it, to give those mothers on the jury an out.

GoBB62 - I believe you. I know there were stings in that area. I think Morrone's Restaurant has calmed that area down a bit. Created more traffic and people who would report this behavior. Did you report? USA - spray painting a locker with filth, well that's something new? What year did you go to H.S.? Tattoos? Take a look around. Adults and teenagers have them. Employed adults, respectable teenagers whose parents allow it. That's a personal preference, not determinative of a thug. Ever watch the NBA? As to George Zimmerman, just one more point they missed. If he was so fat, why is he NOT fat in the police video where he explains where things happened? Why didn't his wife identify her own husbands voice? Why didn't she testify. Don't you think he told his wife what happened? he was released later that evening and went home. I am not saying Martin was an angel but Zimmerman is no better. Let the jury sort this out.

"It's funny that Shammy is calling Zimmerman a PUNK. How about the 17 year old, 6'2" 175lb heavily tattoed PUNK Trayvon Martin who was probably high on marijuana?"

Steeler - You mean the PUNK that was suspended from school for marijuana possession? Or the PUNK that was caught on security camera spray painting filth on the lockers?

When they searched his backpack looking for his spray paint and found 12 pieces of women's jewelry and the screwdriver he used to break into places to steal the jewelry....you talking about that PUNK?

If the jury finds GZ guilty, he will get a new trial. The judge has bent over backward helping the state PERSECUTE him. (That's PERSECUTE not prosecute!)

And wwhickok, don't wait around for sham to show up at your meeting....he is too big a coward. He is only good at two things.....running his mouth or running away!

erik - please tell the rest of us, where are you seeing the prostitutes? You have guns all over your page. The "jewelry" in question looked like a bunch of teenage over-sized fake junk. What do you want crime watch to do, have police powers? Honestly, i don't want you and your AK patrolling my neighborhood. I'm sure you may have good intentions but we don't need community posses. the community simply needs to report, co-operate and talk to each other.

Jerry, regardless of what happened, do you agree that if the jurors follow the law, the only verdict they can render is not guilty because of the amount of reasonable doubt. But I still think 6 women, 5 who I think are mothers, will come back with manslaughter.

--

Posting a picture of a gun on your Facebook page makes you a thug? You can't be serious! My conservative friends routinely post pictures of guns in defense of their 2nd Amendment rights.

Pictures of pot makes you a thug does it? I routinely voice my support for ending marijuana prohibition. Am I too a thug?

Erik I'm just telling you my experience with one when I lived out of state. And you're right, it does take involvement of the entire community to make it work. This is not the total solution, but to sit back and do nothing isn't working either. I thank my lucky stars constantly for being fortunate enough to live in a quiet and safe neighborhood. But, I know from experience how frustrating it can be when you have these punks in the neighborhood causing nothing but problems. For those that see crime being conducted, such as drug sales and you are to scared to report it, the Williamsport police website has a form you can fill out anonymously and submit it and you don't even have to call.

Spike:

I call Martin a "thug" because he was caught by his school with a backpack full of jewelry and burglary tools.

I call Martin a "thug" because he posted pictures of guns, gangs and pot on his Facebook page.

I call Martin a "thug" because he was one.

I can tell all of you that crime watches sound like a great idea, they usually fail because the liberals hamstring them too much or the "thugs" push back.

I have seen plenty of those "Community Crimewatch in Progress" signs in areas outside Williamsport with prostitutes, drugs and other signs of gang control.

If these things really worked, it takes a lot of intestinal fortitude and a community who will back them up.

That usually falls apart when family members get "accidents" and liberals roll out the lawyers to protect the "thugs".

Agreed Spike and I think the jury is going to want to convict him of something and manslaughter will give them an out. You're right, it's just a shame he was out there alone because if he had been with someone else, this probably wouldn't have happened. I hope this doesn't give the neighborhood watch program a bad rap because it really can be an effective program if organized correctly with full participation. If anyone is interested in starting a neighborhood watch, you can go to the Williamsport police website and get tips and information on how to get started. As it states on their website, this program is one of the most effective and cost efficient ways of reducing and/or preventing residential property crimes.

I agree with Gysgt, as usual. We don't need police if we have trained military willing to participate. To those who don't live in the city, it is our problem. No, we don't need a George Zimmerman. I disagree that he is completely innocent. I would convict him of manslaughter. I do agree that if two were doing crime watch together a cooler head may have prevailed. The police could properly arrive and do an investigatory stop if warranted. The problem for me is that Martin was not in the commission of a felony. Sure we can all follow someone but is that a "reasonable man". I agree that we should actively oppose criminal activity. I think thugs should be referred to as criminals. There is a vast difference in determining a "thug" by clothes, race, or even tattoos. Walking slowly, looking around, in the rain at dusk is not grounds for suspicion to a "reasonable man". Crime Watch is just that. You watch, not intervene.

Liberals like Shaman and Reeder are why compromise is impossible and unwise.

The best course of action is to do what is right, form community groups and run the scum out of this area.

Liberals will scream about racism and discrimination and how we hate the poor, but they must be ignored.

Stay the course and sweep the troublemakers and criminals out. Make it clear they are not welcomed here.

Liberals will create stories and enact roadblocks. Remember, they need criminals so the people will turn to gov't.

But if the community can stick together, Williamsport can be a decent place again.

Sham: 'The fact remains...we DON'T KNOW exactly what happened...only that Zimmerman (as WAS RECORDED) was in no mood for allowing another one of "them" to "get away" with whatever Zimmerman assumed was gonna happen. He SHOT an unarmed-individual...and, FINALLY fulfilled his fantasy about the "need" for him carrying a gun'

Complete bunk and speculation. I guess when you have a thug on top of you throwing your head against the ground and punching you that you should try and reason with him.
