Samuel Johns-"America was once "The Land of the Free". Now it's just the land of the freebie."

True, that.

"The Feds managed to convict and jail a local IRS cheat, according to the recent article.

Great, you say? Well maybe, until you think about the thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of illegal immigrants who are receiving benefits based on phony or stolen Social Security numbers and who are filing false income tax returns and obtaining refunds and child care credits based on those fake numbers." - Samuel Johms

I guess you "forgot" to provide your resource(s), for such info.

(WorldNutzDaily doesn't count.)

I found a Washington Post article from 2011 that states "the Internal Revenue Service allowed undocumented workers to collect $4.2 billion in refundable tax credits last year, a new audit says, almost quadruple the sum five years ago."

From the same article "Wage earners who do not have Social Security numbers and are not authorized to work in the United States can use what the IRS calls individual taxpayer identification numbers. Often these result in fraudulent claims on tax returns, auditors found."

I don't understand how this on the left are under the impression that amnesty will broaden the tax base and bring in more federal tax dollars. If 47% of Americans are not paying federal income tax, how do you figure granting amnesty to 12 to 20 million more, many that are low wage unskilled workers will make that 47% do anything but raise? So how is this a good thing if we are just adding to the problem of an already exploding amount of people that use government services but contribute nothing in return?

It is still the land of the free, you are obsesseve about the 'freebies'.

GysgtUSMC, several studies came out showing that turning the illegals to legals and US citizens would in fact add to the treasury, both on the state and federal level.

Your assumption is none of them work or are willing to work. A common belief among the right.

Mr Reeder I never made that assumption. What I am saying is that a great percentage of the ones that do work are unskilled low wage earners. I can also site studies that show the opposite. I'm using common sense. If we already have 47% of Americans not paying any federal income tax, with many getting back more than they actually pain in, and this is a result of the tax law and is based on their income and dependency status, and h Then add to that more low wage earners with dependents, how is that going to do anything but put more of a burden on government programs. Why do you think the black leaders are pushing congress to re-examine this bill? The majority of these immigrants are not working middle and upper income class jobs, the ones that actually pay into the tax base. They are mainly working low wage, unskilled jobs and taking away opportunities for young black Americans. And black leadership recognizes that. In my opinion amnesty will contribute nothing.

Mr. Reeder you state that it is still the land of the free yet liberals feel that in order to feel safe, it's ok to give up some of our freedoms. And out of the same mouth they say the heck with securing our borders, let's let anyone in and grant them amnesty. Studies have also shown that once amnesty is granted this issue will have to be readdressed in 2023 because illegal immigration will dramatically increase above the estimated 500k that cross each year.

That's pretty-much because you "conservatives" (actually) think LESS tax-dollars "magically" turn-into increased-revenue.

Whoa Gysgt, we usually agree. You want young "blacks" to pick fruit? i wouldn't be shocked if you were inclusive and said young people. I think young Caucasian kids can do the same back-breaking labor. In fact, if you go that route, why not do it as a "public good" job and allow them to get educational breaks, whether in college or a trade. Find me any kid in the U.S. who wants essentially migrant jobs. As far as Congress, those clowns are just that. Barnum and Bailey. All of us should agree to just vote them out. No one can be worse.

Recognizing the effect amnesty of 12 million illegal aliens has on jobs in the black community, BALA has scheduled a protest march to the Capitol in DC on July 15th. BALA hopes to bring attention to the sky-high unemployment rate in the black community and the disastrous effect the proposed immigration legislation would have on the jobs market.

A letter from the BALA to Congress reads:

We write to express our serious concerns with Senate Bill 744. Given the fact that more than 13% of all blacks are unemployed – nearly double that of the national average, it is our position that each Member of Congress must consider the disastrous effects that Senate Bill 744 would have on low skill workers of all races, while paying particular attention to the potential harm to African Americans.

most of the significant population centers for "blacks" are cities. Not all but the majority. i will disagree with whoever these "leaders" may be. These kids can't get to the farms or fields. Red herring.

Spike, undocumented workers shouldn't be stereo typed as strictly farm workers. The illegal immigration problem is no longer restricted to areas in the southwest. New York City and many other major cities across the nation have a huge influx of these immigrants and they are filling a lot of low paying non skilled jobs that could otherwise be available to unemployed people of all races. To say that these illegals are just filling jobs Americans don't want is just not true anymore. The problem is far more wide spread and too many businesses are using this undocumented labor.

The reason many Americans don’t want to do these jobs is because undocumented laborers do them for a lot less pay than Americans would want to do them.

have all these businesses that are hiring illegals show us that folks applied but an immigrant was hired. Do we have any people who will say, "hey, I applied for that clerk job and they hired an illegal?" I just want some hard facts by job seekers and employers, not folks standing on the sidelines who have an agenda. (I don't mean you).
