So apparently the right is saying that all of those wonderful conservative republican leaders grew government to unsustainable heights and not Obama.

Actually Ritty Phil did not prove his statement that the government is too centralized. He just made an open eneded statement.

"Is there any facet in your life that you feel that government shouldn't be involved in?"

How did you leap from how much it takes to run government to what facet of life should the government not be ibvolved in. The two do not equate.

Michigan Judge Rules Detroit’s Bankruptcy Is Unconstitutional – It “Dishonors” Obama

Judge Rosemarie Aquilina ruled today that Detroit’s bankruptcy was unconstitutional and dishonored Barack Obama.

No kidding.

Detroit News reported,

Ruling that the governor and Detroit’s emergency manager violated the state constitution, an Ingham County Circuit judge ordered Friday that Detroit’s federal bankruptcy filing be withdrawn. “It’s absolutely needed,” said Judge Rosemary Aquilina, observing she hopes Gov. Rick Snyder “reads certain sections of the (Michigan) constitution and reconsiders his actions.”

“It’s cheating, sir, and it’s cheating good people who work,” the judge told assistant Attorney General Brian Devlin. “It’s also not honoring the (United States) president, who took (Detroit’s auto companies) out of bankruptcy.”

Aquilina said she would make sure President Obama got a copy of her order.

"Actually, I've got a business to run.

I was ADVISED to sign-up, for S.S., by my extremely-conservative financial-planner...as I'm 63...but, figure...as-long-as I'm still generating an income, I have no desire to be a typical "conservative" double-dipper."--MrShaman

Somewhat vague response which could be interpreted several ways. I think you are saying you are continuing to work without SS. Why take a pay cut??? I guess.

What is your business? You didn't buy Phil's McDonalds did you?

Look at Detroit.

Like many private sector companies, Detroit made promises and guarantees they could not fulfill when revenues declined.

They were unable to cut back their spending because they made promises....promises that will now be broken.

The root cause is CEOs and politicians who did not have the courage to face the problems when they were first seen.

Instead, they cooked the books and kicked the can down the road until it came to a point of total collapse.

Social Security is also in trouble. We have known this for decades.

But there is no political will to fix it.

When the time comes, it will be just like Detroit.

The very people we elect to make the hard decisions take the easy way out instead.

Gutless politicians caused this....just as gutless executives destroyed many great companies.

But there is no sign anyone will have guts in the future, so this train is on a collision course with reality.

"what will it take to return us to glory" - maybe fiscal responsiblity, not panderng. Maybe honesty, not politics. Maybe leadership, not being an opportunist. Moral courage, not focus groups. Maybe strength, not weakness. Maybe urgency and not complacency. Sacrifices and not greed. Maybe ownership and not denial. And maybe good parents and not missing dads. The list goes on.

Sorry the letter writer did not excuse Obama. He said that every President after Reagan continued down the pike that Reagan formulated.

Let's face a fact the goal of conservatives is to rollback all New Deal programs.

Two of the most ignorant, unintelligent, mindless, useless, delusional comments of the day, other than every one posted by shammy. They're all that and funny, too... not very clever, but funny in a mind-numbingly idiotic way.

I said it before and I'll say it again, if some on here actually had the opportunity to work for the federal government and witnessed the amount of waste fraud and abuse, I think you would feel differently. I think the only agencies in government that liberals have a problem with is the EPA and DEP. According to them, those agencies are corrupt and in the pockets of the gas industry. But that corruption and waste is present at all levels and across most agencies.

Mr. Reeder I find it unbelievable that you actually feel that there isn't a problem when it takes 4 trillion a year to run the federal government. Is there any facet in your life that you feel that government shouldn't be involved in?

"I would argue the continued push to decentralize government has pushed us so heavily into debt."

Yeah, but you didn't argue it; all you did was say it.

And if you think government is decentralized, it must be happy hour.

The Founding Fathers agrued and disagreed but ultimately they did create our country and our form of government. It still holds today as it did then. We today are dealing with issues that they did not deal with or had a concept of. We are dealing with countries and government that were not in existence at the founding. We are dealing with technology and industries and goods that were not in existence at the founding.

The Founding Fathers gave us building blocks in their writings, their principles, their beliefs and they are found in the documents they left to us. They did not put us in a cage. They gave us the ability to participate, to discuss, to change, to succeed, to grow. All of us.

"If I'm not mistaken the annual cost to run the federal government today is close to 4 trillion. I can't even wrap my head around that."

Past generations could not wrap their heads around the size of debt that the government incurred in their time.

Look at the rise in stocks and their value today compared to back when Reagan was in office. Look at the salaries of CEOs today to then. A recent report says the combine wealth of the 300 wealthiest in the world is equal to the combined incomes of 300 billion poorest in the world.
