Wouldn't it be great if everything was free? Imagine going into a store without price tags! You could take as much as you want! That would be wonderful!

If everything was free we wouldn't have to work for money because we wouldn't need any. Imagine picking up your free phone and calling your free pizza place and haveing them bring it to you for free! Now I would vote for that.

"They rewarded those who life has already rewarded and punished those that could least afford it."

Ah, so life rewards people and it has nothing to do with the effort that an individual puts into his or her own success.

Drink.

I usually use cow manure to fertilize our vegetable garden, but I'm afraid this load would be a little too potent for that purpose!

Oooooweeeee, there's so much crap in this letter, it's about impossible to even begin to correct the author! It appears he's not open to correction, doesn't realize that he's 180 degrees out of synch and doesn't get it that he's about as close to 100% wrong as it's possible for any one individual to be! Nixon was more statesman than crook, as probably the worst thing he did was approve, and even champion, our dropping of the gold standard. FDR put everybody in danger of becoming a ward of the federal government. His bungled handling of the Depression of 1930 caused it to last TWELVE YEARS.

"Compassion was not the federal government's job."

++

What has happened is politicians have passed laws on so-called "compassion issues" to funnel money to their cronies that get them elected. Time for another TARP bill. Obama phones anyone. GM bail out. I dare say that even ACA is not designed to provide better health care for people but instead funnel money to provide healthcare insurance and send money to the health insurance companies. More money is put back into re-election campaigns.

"We are capable of greatness, we have shown this in the past, so what will it take to return us to glory? This question is not rhetorical." - Brian Spies

We'll MORE-than-likely have to wait until after 2016, to find-out...if we've learned anything-at-all...yet.

There are TOO-many people, who...directly, or indirectly...want to make SURE we see no changes/improvements, while a Black President is (still) in-office. "Coincidentally", many of those (same) people have always considered (and, expressed) themselves as Reagan-fans.

"In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem." -- RR

Please take out a sheet of composition paper and write this until every line on both sides of the paper is full.

When government was smaller, spent less, taxed people less, and didn't play favorites, people had more money to spend on their needs instead of asking the government to provide it.

Brian is the typical liberal useful idiot.

Under Reagan, poverty declined, wealth increased and the economy boomed, creating millions of jobs and doubling revenues to the gov't.

Under FDR & Obama, poverty increased, wealth declined and the economy stagnated, leaving millions looking for work.

The comparison is such an endorsement of conservatism that liberals must attempt to rewrite history.

Why IS it, that it's fairly-consistently "conservatives" who are always the FIRST to come-up with "GRAB EVERYTHING YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS, ON"/"GREED IS GOOD" dream-scenarios?

They profess to be "God's" gift to Capitalism & Fair Play...but, they're (quite-often) the FIRST to express more-"creative" ways to end-up with MORE...with as little work as can be managed.

Off to work to raise tax money so MrShaman can receive his social security and spend all day posting to LTE's. I expect 50 postings from him alone on this LTE by the time I get home tonight. Have a nice day.

...And, as is typical (presently), the "tab" (for those policies) was left for a Democratic President to clean-up.

*

"“The thing that came out of the Reagan era, which really was a horrible legacy, was the notion that deficits didn’t matter and the rationalization that we were only trying to starve the beast and if the deficit got big enough or persistent enough or extended far enough in time, surely they would wake up and shrink the government,” said David Stockman, former Director of the Office of Management and Budget from 1981-1985, at the Cato Institute Wednesday."

What is the point of having a conversation about Reagan, Johnson or any other president from decades ago unless for a sole academic purpose? This is history. The only conversation we should have is how to resurrect a crumbling government body. This is neither the complete fault of either party. Balance is gone. We do not need to make true success impossible or more difficult nor should we starve, deny decent medical treatment or adequately educate the poor. Until we return to a balanced approach, all will fail.
