XTO deserves this fine. It was negligence by not supervising some workers who allowed the leak to continue without action.

This type of error deserves big settlements, not from any harm, but from the stupidity of the mistake.

" not from any harm..." Really? You pimps for these gas companies are a piece of work. Should add on punitive damages just to make it painful. Your kids and grandkids will certainly experience pain when they don't have enough clean water to survivie.

When this spill occurred It was said to be done by vandals. Has this since changed?

Good did come out of this though. After this spill, you started seeing security at well sites and locks on the tank valves. This was a wake up call to the possibility of eco-terrorists.

Just curious, when this story came out there was some concern about nearby water wells. Never heard any more about it and just wondered what happened. Hey Bornhere, if your on, this was the story I was accused of being an eco-terrorist.

nosferatu, I suggest we have a frack water truck dump it's contents ontop of erik's private well and see if he makes his children drink the water.....on wait, I bet you he is on a public water supply.....

This fine is a joke...shut them down and it will send a clear message that PA wants to protect its water and air..but no, that will never happen because Tommy boy and his croanies are getting their pockets filled daily.

Hey rick, we all know that you are a eco-terrorist who wears love beads and has a pony tail and lives in a hut and burns sticks for fuel!! I got a Focus BEV-FWD I love it, no more gasoline for me. I still think that the fine should have been more for this accident.

Cool Bornhere, I have looked at that also. Glad you like it. I have heard good things about the Focus. A friend of mine in Reading has one. Now I have to go and get my ponytail trimmed.

What a shame to charge so much and where is this fine money going I guarantee it will line the pockets of some pig and ps had we fined all the companies like international paper and all the others who dumped for years their would be no business on the river and ps the Susquehanna has been dealing win pollution long before oil and gas was here way before so go ahead and disagree but facts are facts

I agreed with the fines and pointed out the negligence.

But the morons that post here and who are so filled with hate of the gas industry cannot see that I support these fines.

What a bunch of buffoons!

Erik, I for one was surprised when I read your comment because you normally do not comment on these issues, but I still think that the fine should have been more because of the negligence of the situation.

sadly not surprised (again) at the title of this article. It should at least hint at what the driller was fined FOR. But i guess its not that important for the public to receive THAT info...
