July 23, 2013

There has been a plastic bag with newspapers that has laid on the corner of Kane and Southern Ave. for at least a month....

Geeze, hopefully the clock guy doesn't read this. He'll have something else to worry about.

Two in a row.... I did find the letter's title appropriate though. On a serious note, it's sad that so many choose to litter but we all should be responsible citizens and try and pick up trash when we see it. Let's not go by it for a month and leave it laying. It took more time to write this letter than it would have took to just pick it up.

When I am driving down a street, no I don't stop and pick up everyone else's bag.

When walking down the sidewalk, I pick up stuff in front of my house or just obvious trash,

Do you know a nice lady named Donna?

Honestly...no, no one cares. Do you know why know one cares? We're more concerned right now with making sure we or our families don't get shock walking through the streets.

Did you REALLY need an LTE about this?

Do you have a circle of "old ladys" that chooses a new 'trivial topic' to complain about each week? First it is the clock...

For the record, I do care about the little. However, my mind is preoccupied with the lastest shooting that still has me rather..shocked. Though, I'm not sure why because I shouldn't find anything shocking these days.

That's not what I said. What I said was "We're more concerned right now with making sure we or our families don't get shock(which was supposed to be shot) walking through the streets"

My point there was that, while yes, you're right, it's basically drug dealers/users and/or gangs killing each other, it is STILL in our minds, the possibility of getting caught in the crossfire.

I don't know if anyone recalls the shooting that happened (last year I believe) at memorial park but there were kids at the courts at the time. Thankfully no one got killed. The kids weren't the target, but they could have been killed if a bullet had hit them.

THAT is my point. As a parent, I think of the 'worst case scenario' when considering the safety of my child. That, my child getting shot because two thugs wanna have a duel (exaggeration for those that didn't understand) is the worst case scenario for me. For the record, yes, I'm saying me getting shot instead of my son, is not my worst c

case scenario, in fact, if I had to choose, that would be my preference, but it is always on my mind with the escalating violence.

How long do you think it'll be before we DO start hearing about innocent people caught in the crossfire? Do you really believe it won't eventually escalate to that?

By the way it's Hickok. It's spelled out right there for you on the screen. If you're going to suggest I'm wrong, you could at least get my name right.

mim - you actually are trying to convince us the problem is not getting worse? Do you have your head so far in the WMWA office that you don't realize it is inevitable that someone will be shot who is not involved. Do you think the shooters had firearms training? There are areas that are no longer safe. You are concerned because of the location of your properties. BTW, try reading the shots fired along with the murders. I do agree that it is aid some landowners are going to become losers but that's part of any investment. You may gain for awhile and then you lose. you need to know when to fold. No one is going to co-sign the safety of areas that are less and less so. Desirable tenants don't want to live in the middle of drug deals. Homicide is not the only driver of flight from these areas.

Mim, I know you own property in Williamsport and the media attention about the increasing crime in this city hurts your business, but the fact is Williamsport IS becoming very unsafe and it is not confined to just a couple areas. There have been shootings all over the city in the last 5 years. They have still yet to solve the murder that happened in a bar parking lot on Franklin Street several years back as a result of a drive by shooting, the third shooting that same night. Couple that violence with the drug problem that is out of control and yea, this is no longer a safe little town. It is what it is and the SG has a responsibility to it's readers to report this crime.
