Freedom

July 25, 2013

In a recent letter to the editor, the writer claimed that Ronald Reagan was what was wrong with this country. I was stunned by that statement, but as I continued to read, I had an epiphany....

Paul Rinker-"Liberals hate freedom because they fear it. Freedom brings with it personal responsibility. Freedom gives us not only the opportunity for great success, but the possibility of failure. That possibility of failure scares liberals so much that they cannot tolerate freedom."

Which is why most liberals think our COnstitution guarantees equal results.

Prediction time - Any Liberal comment here will not feature any repudiation of the content of Mr. Rinker's letter. Those comments willinstead resort to personal attacks.

I know - it's a gift I have.

At least they won't be able to play the racist card..... again. That's always one of their old stand-bys.

Whew!!! Thanks, for the "heads-up"!! If that memo went-out to ALL Libs, I'd never gotten mine!

Once you're current, on your meds, I'd appreciate any efforts you might provide, directing me to that Declaration.

The left wants complete equality, finacially, socially, spiritually. They just don't think folks should have work equally as hard or as much to achieve it.

Not TRUE!!

It's always possible my email-service was "down", when that "War, Against God"-directive was (first) issued.

You realize you just did an attack on liberals as well as the writer of the letter, Mr. Rinker. How is it not personal?

The writer is correct about the left’s fear of competing in a free society. That’s long been a major factor in their cries for equality of outcome and wealth redistribution; no risks or hard work they might be overwhelmed by. It takes self-confidence and self worth to want to live in a free society.

I don't believe Reagan was a good President. His skill was presentation. He was an actor. I am not going to sift through his presidency now but can on a topic specific thread. I always reject any statements when the writer says "all liberals" or "all conservatives". This is fallacious from the start. There is never an "all" in either party or in voters. Everyone has an individual feeling regarding "God". "God" is used to bolster arguments that would hold little water until aligned with the "creator". I am NOT criticizing Mr. Rinker. I don't know him. I am criticizing blanket assertions. His letter would have credence if he began with "some liberals".

Vince, you've put the liberal minds in a spin this morning. They are trying to figure out how to post some comments of no substance and make it look intelligent as well as making personal attacks that appear to be impartial. It's going to be a tough day for some of our resident liberals.

Spike, that's how Obama and his teleprompter got elected. He was the nation's feel good black candidate that speaks eloquently but has absolutely no experience.

GysgtUSMC, What are the undisputed facts of this letter? -Reeder

Hmm let's see, where do I start. How about the most glaring one:

"They demand that government control everything and protect them from any consequences of their actions."

Surely as a hardcore democrat you can't dispute that fact. Let's use big government to regulate every facet of our lives. And when we fail, let's ask government to bail us out.

Let's start with you don't believe in equality period. You do not believe that we are equals.- Reeder

Just for example, do you believe that someone who works thier entire adult life, no matter what thier job or salary, should should have the same lifestyle as someone who has lived off the system thier entire adult life by choice? Why would these 2 types of people be entitled to "equal" lifestyles?

Shall we discuss the government bailouts and how liberals still insist that this was the correct approach? What did it teach these industries/businesses as far as being held responsible for their actions? It is no different than mommy and daddy constantly bailing out their kids when they get in trouble.

Gysgt - Let's start an "Everyone be Honest" movement. Presidents in recent memory are figureheads opposed to actual leaders. The decisions have fallen to the "experts" in every area of governance for a very long time. None are or were deciders.Government is like a Board of Directors with voting powers.

The tone of this letter is very similar to the tone used by Ms. Brown in her letter about the the Zimmerman case and racism. To me both letters preach to the choir and do little to engage those who see things differently.

First it is not the 'liberals' it is the Democrats who had no problem bailing out companies. You had a Republican President along with his Treasury Department and the Fed who had no problem bailing out companies. You had republicans who had a problem with it in Congress. You also had former Republican congressmen who now work for the failing companies crawling before the Congress begging for a bailout.

Any bill that has been debated in congress since the bailout holding companies responsible in the future has been defeated or defunded by republicans.

So what are the undisputed facts of this letter?

Won't comment on this letter other than a comment about Ronald Regan...he is the one responsible for people not being able to "double dip" on retirement and that is completely WRONG. If you worked for it and paid into it for 40+ years, you should be able to collect. I know a woman who worked for 40 years and paid into social security all of that time. Her husband works for the railroad (and he pays three times as much as others pay into social security towards his retirement) and prior to Ronald Regan, she was entitled to half of her hubsand's retirement and also her social security that she paid into for years. Now, because of the bill that Regan passed, she can take one or the other. That means that if a railroad worker had a spouse that never worked a day in her life, his spouse would be entitled to the same as the lady that worked 40+ years. Now everything that she paid into social security will be given to someone else....NOT FAIR!

David, I could be wrong, but I read in this letter that the author was giving a choice. You can worship God or government. In the last paragraph he states that with God you get freedom, with government, you do not. You may not agree with his assessment but it is not as you say, preaching to the choir. Open your mind David and you will see what is now hidden from your sight. You can then make an informed choice.
