Tail wags dog

July 26, 2013

When it comes to racial tensions in this country, is it possible that the "Tail is wagging the Dog"? Many black leaders insist that "Racial Profiling" is at the root of the problem....

Hayes, while I don't want to make this about race, I don't 'grab my kid and pull them close' when I walk by an African American or Hispanic either.

Nor do I cross the street to get away from ANYONE. There's got to be some sort of serious 'red flag' for me to act 'cautious' around a different person.

This is a bit of an exaggeration but if I saw someone for example, looking at my wife and licking their lips...that's a bit creepy..red flag!

If I walk by someone and they just glance in my direction, I don't think "Oh my God my life is in danger".

Btw..Hayes, notice in the last section of my comment I didn't specify races. Perhaps you should try doing that once in a while.

This letter reads like a talking points memo from the Klan. What percentage of child molestation is committed by white people? S when your walking through the mall with your kid, and you, see a white person do you grab your kid and pull him close to you? Why not?

What percentage of US serial killers are white? When you see a white person coming, do you run to the other side of the street? Why not?

This letter is nothing more than a feeble attempt to justify the ugliness that lives inside of WAY too many people.

Why would anyone want to spend time in a black neighborhood when there are daily reports of blacks beating whites?

But liberals keep telling us that there is no racism on the part of black citizens because they have no power.

Looks like some headway was made today in getting to understand our neighbors of different opinions. Keep this up and we actually might get something tangible done......

Spike no one even raised the race issue and racial profiling until the activists and the left did on the Zimmerman case. And their constant cries of racism had no facts to support it. And then when some of us stand up and state statistics and facts, the left doesn't want to hear it. You actually think the problem lies with the perception that people have? I think the problem lies with those who choose to murder each other. Yes, violence is a problem throughout all races. But no one can deny that young black men are killing each other at an alarming rate. Even Sharpton and Jackson concede to that. They along with many on the left just choose to blame that ugly reality on everything but what the causes really are and I would start with the increasing number of children that are raised in families without father's and not getting the structure, discipline and supervision that they need.

This is becoming funny. The "blacks" you fear are not home watching AL Sharpton, MSNBC or anything else. The people you fear the most are under 30. We are talking about Zimmerman, they aren't. I live in a nice area on what would definitely be considered a good block. Two black males live on our street, both professionals, no one fears them and our whole block gets along. Take off the hoodie or T, loose the low hanging pants, put on a dress shirt and Khaki's. You know what happens? The fear level drops. Change the people in the khakis to sweat pants and a hoodie, the fear increases. Everyone here talks about blacks. Would you fear hispanics if you were in a city? No one seems to get that we inspire distrust to the minorities. We can't see it because we are white. Doesn't anyone get that this problem is not going away as long as we beat the same old drum? Any new ideas?

I know there will be those who will argue with you, but I won't be one of them. That's because I think you're correct. Even if your statistics are skewed a bit against blacks, it's probably not enough to debunk your argument." - Francine

Who elected Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton as leaders and spokesmen of the black community in America? I am curious if blacks living here in Williamsport and Lycoming County think of those two as qualified to speak for all black people in America.

For the record, I really enjoy discussing things with most of you and hearing varying opinions, we may not always agree but I don't mind at least listening, sometimes I adamantly disagree, and I'm sure the way I express things at time, that is pretty obvious, but still, I don't mind considering others' opinions and here, I find a large diversity of them. But when certain people come on here with the whole "I'm right your wrong" attitude and can't even form a relatively logical opinion...it is draining on the tolerative nerves.

optimistic and positive. I want to help make the city better because I feel I can and I want to be part of the solution.

I hear a lot of people throwing out ideas and furthermore complaints, but I don't see a lot of people getting up off their arse and doing a single thing about any of it.

No one is saying that a specific race is more violent, or at least they shouldn't be. But there is a reality that the majority of the shootings that have occurred in this area, drug related, the suspect happens to be black. I'm basing this off of the photos posted in the Sun Gazette.

GysgtUSMC you are not agreeing with me. To you white on white crime is a only a problem. All the focus is on the aberration of growing violence presumably linked to a subculture of blacks in our society. The fact is that the violence and the criminality in America is by many Americans and in particular by whites. The only statistics being discusse is those committed by blacks.

The tail is not wagging the dog, people are grabbing the tail and shaking the dog and claim the dog is doing it.
