The snowball

July 26, 2013

I thoroughly enjoyed the letter from the owners of the Pajama factory. As landlords in the city, we have been saying the same thing for years....

In fact I also believe Mim is the same person the Mayor had to "pause" the questions for and tell everyone "I won't tolerate people interrupting others when they're trying to ask a question".

Not to mention that you referenced this LTE title multiple times.

Magic, I for one, couldn't be at that meeting, would have liked to be, but couldn't. I'm very interested in know more about the Ordinance. However, I do think it's going to be useful to Williamsport.

Mim, after watching the video of the meeting on Scott Street...you're not hard to pick out of the crowd. In fact, you're one of two people I heard disagree with the proposed Ordinance.

You usually get the info from a previous landlord? Hahahah...you think they are gonna be honest with you? They are just trying to pass on a problem. Again mim just how much you complain about people stiffing you bills tells me all I need to know about "how good you screen tenants" and how you run ur rentals. If they are soooo nice and Scott street is sooooo nice.....move there. Oh that's right you live on the south side away from the violence and crappy rentals.

As for where in the info is kept I'm not gonna answer that, that was discussed at the meeting at curtin middle school that you weren't at! Ya know? That meeting where you could have ur questions answered and raise concerns...that you didn't attend. Though I think I know why......

It will show you a pattern of tenants Mim you do realize that this proposed landlord/tenant registration is here to help you??? It will show you a pattern how often they move from place to place. What type of issues or problems they caused! And it puts responsibility on landlords who allow this behavior in there rentals!

Magic??Who is gonna be responsible to keep all this information?? I usually get it from the previous landlord and the magistrates. talk about big government??

Mim you do realize that this proposed landlord/tenant regestration is here to help you??? It will show you a pattern of tenants how often they move from place to place. What type of issues or problems they caused! And it puts responsibility on landlords who allow this behavior in there rentals! But if course you cAn pick good tenants! Lol especially ones who stiff you bills....guess what? With this proposal you can see if they stiffed previous landlords and u can choose not to rent to them! But you don't see that cuz you're only worried about ur money! Not the welfare of the city and neighborhoods. Though I don't recall seeing you at the meeting for it at curtin middle school...so I guess you wouldn't know any details just hearsay. But please mim call me names and insult me cuz I know you can't debate or think outside your own intrests

The crowd sheered everytime he mentioned scumlords, yet he never mentioned who the landlord was where the shooting occurred although I am sure he knew lIKE i SAID BEFORE CALL THE ASSESSMENT OFFICE 3272301 GIVE THE ADDRESS ASK OWNER , THEN ASK WHERE TAX BILL IS SENT , U WILL HAVE HIS OR HER ADDRESS, SIMPLE.

NOBUD. "I take care of maintenance timely and use qualified contractors so it,is done right. These things cut into the profit, but allow me to charge more and so in the long run I make more. It really is much easier than Mim makes it out to be. " WHAT IS EASIER? my maintenance is not the problem.thought I wrote a letter about safety & crime perception in williamsport?? When people read about an unidentified woman claiming u just keep your head down, u dont make eye contact, drugs and violence, that article was one sided bull crappy, maybe some were happy with those lies??Then next day there was a bloody massacre on 4th st when some nut case punched out the atm glass ?Do u think the merchants down town were happy with that headline??

We can definitely agree to disagree. I just got done watching the video of the Mayors press conference and I can tell you with 100% certainty there was not 15 people opposed to the mayor, in fact there may have been 2 or 3 that's about it and the only thing they were opposing was the landlord/tenant registration.

The press conference was very positive. I don't have a single problem with SG writing the TRUTH and the whole truth. I have a problem with them writing lies for the sake of selling newspapers. I do think the headlines are extreme.

I have heard people criticize me for sensationalizing but I'm hearing those same people defend SG. Why is that? Is it because they get paid to do it and I don't?

My advice if you want to know for sure whether SG is being honest, start showing up to town meetings.

Wwhickok, I don't deny that the SG practices the same methods as other media to attract it's readers. That's what they're in the business to do. But IMO they do a pretty good job reporting the city news, both good and bad. I could only imagine what the readers would say if they started editing or omitting stories to make this city look good. I for one would like as many details as possible when it involves crime in this city. How they choose to capture readers attention with their headlines, really doesn't matter to me. As long as it includes the facts. I've lived in cities and towns similar to here and this paper by far is much more informative in most cases. We can agree to disagree.

On top of Sensationalizing The Williamsport Sun Gazette feeds off of the negativity and apparent racial divide that everyone says exists because for them, it sells newspapers.

You may not agree with that but like it or not, it's absolutely true. Negativity and Racial division are clearly what grab peoples' attention these days, and make them want to grab a newspaper.

If everyone loved life and appreciated the good things they had and only wanted to read about the positive, that's what SG would print.

So I'm curious..

"Bloody Streets" isn't considered sensationalizing when in reality the article simply describes a drunk idiot who decided to punch out a window and bled onto a sidewalk?

Sure it is, the title makes it sound like a massacre occurred and that's just one article that SG has sensationalized. I can appreciate you don't agree with you, but I also think some of you are just blinded by SG's manipulation.

While I certainly support the Truth being reported, I do not feel that Sun Gazette is reporting the full truth, I think they're printing as much of the truth as they want you to know and sensationalizing the rest.

And why do we need to remember that?

@ Gys, yes, I find it odd as well, yet at times refreshing. However, I also find it very unjust and narrow minded at times. And on top of that, most recently, it has done quite a bit of sensationalizing.

I think I would rather have a local newspaper that questions local government decisions, than have national media that gives a free pass and praises every decision of this administration and democratic leadership. I find it odd in fact that a conservative leaning paper does question conservative leadership and I give them credit for doing so.

As for the rest of your commentary EA, I don't disagree with you. Scott Street used to be a really nice place to live, it's not anymore. Frankly ALOT of Williamsport has become 'run down'. One really big issue I think, having nothing to do with Scott Street, is that for the most part, all the 'Projects' are located in one central area. RIGHT NEXT TO THE ASSISTANCE OFFICE. Just sayin'.. Idk who's idea it was to make one specific area the low income housing central and stock all the Welfare collecting, low income housing citizens in one place. They should be spread out in different communities within the city. That's part of the reason, imo, that you only see certain groups of people in certain areas. They've become too secluded to specific areas.

I'm not completely siding with Gabriel Campana. I told him flat out, while I understood he was a politician he was still one of us and he and the rest of us both need to keep that in mind.

I'm not saying that he doesn't do anything politically motivated. However, I AM saying that SG is as much part of the problem as anyone.

1. Mim if you think Scott St is such a good place to live why don't you live there? Oh that's right, you prefer to pontificate from Duboistown. 2. While I applaud your efforts to mobilize wwhickok, let's not get ahead of ourselves in praising Gabe. He is still the same man who storms out of meetings when he doesn't get his way. 3. While the Sun Gazette is no Pulitzer winning paper, it does a decent job-- most of the time. It is no secret Gabe holds a great amount of disdain, ie the election night fake paper, for the publication. See point 2.

This Newspaper is poorly edited, facts are not checked, opinions given as facts, and lies SOLD as truth. Negativity sells, second problem. Financial advertisers get to politically spin your words for money? Real big problem.

Do you seriously believe that this newspaper is going to be the eye opener for bringing the truth to the public? What is their working relationship with City Hall? From what I have heard and read (wrong information, GUESSED, with no ones name attached just Staff)not to good.

Maybe the SG can become a stepping stone for selling truth and start by building a bridge across 4th Street first.

behavior. Look beyond the color of someone's skin. Do you see something that isn't 'normal' for your neighborhood? Or that you think SHOULDN'T be normal for your neighborhood?

Report it. The best case scenario(or worst depending on how you look at it), it turns out to be nothing. The worst case scenario (or best depending on how you look at it) it turns out that you just helped catch criminals committing a crime.

Take responsibility and accountability and help the city. Help yourself.

Do you really think the city, the police, are going to win this fight against drugs without our involvement? You're kidding yourself if you think that, trust me.

Gys, I don't 'not welcome' the coverage, but I'd prefer it be portrayed accurately.

For example, if they were writing 7 articles of negative and 7 artciles of positive, I wouldn't mind it so much. It's like they're suggesting nothing good ever happens here.

Also, a lot of the outdoors and regional stuff isn't even stuff about Williamsport. Almost never have I seen anything listed in the "regional" section that is, though I'm sure that's why they call it Region.

My issue is that it's very much portrayed that every day a murder is committed. I'm sure that I've said in the past "if we don't read about a shooting a week" but in reality that isn't true.

We have NOT had 52 shootings in the last 12 months, not even close. look it up, that's a FACT.

Is there an escalating drug problem? Absolutely. But this isn't something the city can just get rid of overnight. IT REQUIRES Landlord/tenant cooperation. Stop renting to criminals, start reporting supsicious behavio
