"Presidents are right to insist the Pentagon prepare contingency plans to meet any eventuality, no matter how remote the possibility they may be used.

But sending Americans into combat in the Syrian civil war is such an insane idea that Congress should make it clear that if President Barack Obama decides one day to do so, lawmakers will order him the very next day to withdraw."

Unlike your average John Wayne fan, I'd say a MAJORITY of Dems...INCLUDING President Obama...are well-aware o' the downside of Preemptive Striking.

On one hand, the editorial thinks it is proper to prepare plans for all possibilities. But, on the other, it is not ok for the administration to discuss the plans after they have been prepared.

I, for one, am tired of our servicemen coming home dead, injured and with mental problems due to the horrors of war. I am tired of funding the incessant wars in a part of the world where the citizenry chooses to live with a 7th century mindset. Let them fight it out on their own. Keep our troops and our money out of it.

"Has Obama learned nothing from the history of this country's many bloody mistakes in the Middle East?" Corrected version "Obama HAS learned many things from the history of mistakes GEORGE W. BUSH made in the middle east...." Do your research before trying to blame someone who VOTED AGAINST one of the "wars in the middle east." An Undeclared war for profit is not something this president would do. Only the right wing would purge into a "for profit" war. My husband was the first unit in Iraq and we were both sickened by a Sun Gazette interview with a friend of the editors afterwards. The one thing this CSM said: "I can't speak for the others in my unit..." And he was correct. This man sat crying on his bed the entire tour emailing his wife. Then down graded and took the Bronze star that was to go to my husband and the other actual soldiers who did their jobs. We were sickened and you should be too!
