I pay enough taxes and it's not the home owners problem this problem exist, why do we have to pay the consequences? You will just push more home owners to move out of this county and make more room for the trouble. Find a better solution!!!

Agreed. Raising taxes is not the solution. My wife and I have already moved out of the city because of all the political nonsense. Now I'm really thinking about selling our rental when the current tenants move. There's becoming way too much red tape.

And how about "audits of rentals". Really? I hope there's more to that story, otherwise that's an illegal search. Kind of like how this new law requiring landlords to report their tenants may violate the 4th amendment.

Since the general medial felt it was soooo important to report the race of the shooter and victim, what is the break down of the shooters in the city of Williamsport and victims?????

wintergirl, it's really hard to form an opinion on what you said because I had to read it three times because the way you choose to type it out, makes it very difficult to read.

Here's my issue with a lot of the comments on this article and others like it. It seems like everyone wants a solution to the problem but no one wants to be a part of that solution.

Home Owners & Landlords DO have a responsibility imo. Neighborhood Watch Groups, background checks of potential tenants, etc. are all ways to assist and support in solving these issues.

Yes, I too feel that we pay too much in taxes, I think there is a lot of money wasted trying to make this city a 'tourist attraction' but at the same time, I do believe hiring more police officers is a necessity and I'm just speaking for myself but I'm willing to pay a little more to do that.

I've heard very few people suggest what THEY can do to help and I've heard a lot of people say that the problem belongs to someone else.

it's a shame, when police are more apt to take down a dwi driver instead of looking for real crime.

"audit of rental properties"....SG needs more info on that before including it in the article. Illegal search is what comes to mind.

To me, DWI is REAL crime. I think what you were saying was "more serious" crime, but drunk driving is a very serious crime to me as well. More often than not, the person driving drunk isn't the one to get killed in fatal crashes.

In any of these cases, was the victim of the shooting an upstanding, law-abiding citizen? Just wondering...

Make that 10. I just heard a call on the scanner to the corner of West 4th and Diamond for a shooting victim, shot in the head at the church lot.

Looked like a regular domestic disturbance to me. WF chasing a WM shooting all her ammo at him across St. John's parking lot with the victim ending up on the curb on Newberry Street and then pistol whipping him like a beat dog. Ambulance and LifeFlight called. He seemed Ok to me. They were still both arguing in the street.

Yes, there was a 10th shooting but here is the thing about that, it doesn't share the same trait as the other shootings, it isn't drug or gang related. This was a domestic dispute, my guess is the boyfriend was a cheater or something...or the woman was just flat out crazy. I'm not saying it doesn't matter but the newspaper talks about 'fear' this type of shooting isn't going to 'scare' anyone, at least not in the same way that the drug/gang related shootings have.
