Hagel should be asked if Pentagon has reformed itself

August 5, 2013

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is spending much of his time these days jetting around the country to spread his woe-is-us message to the Pentagon’s civilian worker....

He's just following his idiot boss's habits of flying around the country for no good reason except to spew nonsense not worth listening to!

Maybe we could save billions of dollars by closing a lot of these bases overseas that were built at a time when they were necessary. Keep the bases in areas where they are needed and shut the other ones down. There are dozens of military sites in Germany alone. It always seems U.S. bases are the first on the closure list which effects jobs and local economies. Yet we leave countless installations open overseas to benefit everyone else.

"Members of Congress should be asking Hagel whether the Pentagon has re-examined its spending priorities, perhaps scrapping some of the pie-in-the-sky programs in order to protect essential spending."

Hmmmmm..."pie-in-the-sky programs" is conservaspeak for what...specifically??

Shaman I have been involved in Base Realignment and Closures (BRAC) and I've personally seen the effects it had on jobs and the local economies. I would rather see bases eliminated overseas than coding those that provides jobs and money in this country. Take a look on WikiLeaks and see for yourself the number of installations overseas that have worn out their purpose. The Defense department has always had issues when it comes to cutting waste and eliminating areas that shouldn't be eliminated. The latest proposal is cutting both the Army and Marine Corps personnel 25% across the board. Levels we haven't seen since before WWII.

When we "need" military-bases, to subsidize local-economies, someone needs to re-prioritize our use of the (various) U.S. military orgs.
