How many times has 1043 Isabella St been in the paper? That landlord should be kicking people out.

please don't tell me the authorities don't know where the problem properties are in this city.

It's not the tenants they should be going after, it's the irresponsible landlords, that continually rent to those who cause the problems. PA should require a license, with a yearly renewal and review from a landlord for each property and then do the same thing they did in 1990 for nuisance bars, shut the landlord down. If the state through our local Reps won't do it, I do believe that Mayor Campana and City council have the ability to do this at the local level. This one item alone would do more to curb crime in Williamsport than placing cameras all over or requiring tenant registration.

Again I will mention the nuisance properties at Bridge st. commons and Victoria Gardens. Places like this are what this proposal is intended to take care of. Holding the out of town SLUMloards responible for the type of tenants they allow into their buildings.

As I have lived in the city all my life and family before me.... I do NOT agree to give up ANY civil liberties to try to get a little security.

GO after the landlords... YES Document individual tenets... NO

As Ben Franklin so stated: “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

If it is a proven fact this ordinance won't help in finding a solution to crime, then imo, I don't see the point.

As for needing this ordinance to find the bad properties? PLEASE.. I can point a few out to you that should be condemned if you'd like.

Carl, you're absolutely right.

I've seen an apartment just off of Washington Blvd, that wreaked of cat urine so bad that it literally gave me an instant headache when I entered the front door.

I saw an apt on Dove Street in which the front porch was caving in, the "back porch" was a cement slab with broken off railings, a death trap if you will, with broken windows and holes in the walls.

FYI, the landlord was the same for both Apartments. The irony is that supposedly they have a Construction company on contract to fix their apartments, they just choose not to.

People in public Positions choose their words carefully.

Quote: Campana claims the law [ can ] prevent more drug houses from opening and close those in operation.

End Quote:

Note the word [ can ]

instead of

[ will ]

You're right, it is absolutely "can" because this is another shot in the dark.

Truth is none of us, not the government or the citizens know what to do or what we CAN do to reduce the crime in this city, thanks to previous 'regimes' the problem has already gotten out of hand imo. Sure, this city isn't all bad, but it is becoming worse. Denial of that is just based on the desire to make profit and if you are going to do that, you need a positive image even if it is based on false representations.
