Marlin, While I agree with you, you need to understand that when you write a letter to the editor, there will be many who misread, misunderstand, misuse and generally abuse what you've said. If you can't handle that, don't write.

Don't really want to take sides here. I read both letters. Frankly, I had to check Lilley's statistics. I washed shocked to find they were accurate. However, the end of the letter does suggest that the statistics make profiling justifiable. The letter says that profiling, while morally wrong, is justifiable as crime rates in the black community are much higher than the whites. It's a complex issue that no one should write about as "resolved". There are arguments to support both sides. This is one of those issues where both sides of the racial divide need to remain open to communication and intelligent debate. In other words, I personally am listening in on both sides without taking a stance.

Shulski, I agree but it needs to be honest conversation without the fear of being called a racist if facts are presented that the black community may not like. The first step would be to admit that there is a growing epidemic of young black men killing each other and that they are responsible for over 50% of the murders in this country. And the facts for robbery are even worse. Those are facts. Yet when myself and others have brought up facts such as this, we were called racists. So what can be done to address those issues and what is causing this growing epidemic? I would start with the breakdown of the family unit and the number of single parent homes. To me that's where it all begins. 67% of black children, under the age of 19 are raised in single parent homes. That is a very sad statistic and it should be the first topic of conversation.

"As for verifying the questioned statistics they are part of a study done by the "Black on Black Crime Coalition". Also these facts were vetted in a panel discussion aired on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.

Unfortunately, many on the "Left" only see what they want to see and rarely ever let the facts get in the way of their political correctness." - Marlin D. Lilley Jr.

No...we've (already) seen the "work" of "Black on Black Crime Coalition".
