Refreshing

August 18, 2013

The other day, I was riding around in my care listening to the radio. This, quite frankly, is what a lot of people do. I turned on a station, WXPI, of which I was becoming familia....

It does make you wonder why the season premiere of Duck Dynasty was the most watched show ever on network television. There's no sex, no swearing and the show ends with a prayer every week. No drugs, no alcohol and no violence. Just traditional families working and interacting with one another in a fun and loving way. There is a calling for this type of stuff. Maybe shows like this being so popular will be noticed by hollywood and they will follow suit and realize that everything they produce doesn't have to involve sex, foul language, violence and getting high or drunk.

Mike, I think Duck Dynasty is more popular because it's a modern day Beverly Hillbillies and people seem to like watching a bunch of ********. Sadly enough we live in a society now where s e x, foul language and violence sells and makes people rich. I don't see that changing.

"Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." --Hebrews 12:1-2

Run away from sin and run towards Christ.

I see you all are for censorship.

You know even people raised by the "good book" can become criminals. They have been known to practice hate and discrimination, oppression, subjugation.

So you can tell who is a going to be a good person by the radio station they listen to or the reality show they watch. Here all this time I thought it was by one's deeds that you could tell how good a person was.

"De-criminalize drug use, and put the state in charge of dispensing physician written prescriptions...and it would put the dealers out of business."

Francine, are you suggesting that all popular street drugs be decriminalized? If not, won't dealers just start selling other ones? They are not suddenly going to get a work ethic.

Also, prescriptions for what? To get high? Wouldn't dealers still be in business selling to those who were denied a prescription?

A complex issue to be sure, but we need to think this through.

"I see you all are for censorship." Mr. Reeder

as long as there are other channels available, there is no censorship. All one needs to do is change the channel.

Francine, If your friends were all jumping off a cliff... Just because Florida does something stupid is no reason for us to do it. Here's another news flash for you. If bank robbery were made legal, there would be a lot less arrests for bank robbery. So what else should we 'decriminalize'? Assault, rape, or even. murder? If we make murder legal, then the crime problem in Williamsport would be gone. Are you starting to see how stupid the whole decriminalization idea is? Drug dealers don't sell drugs as a public service. They sell drugs because it is a fast easy way to make money. If you take that away, they will find another fast easy illegal way to make money, like stealing it from you at gunpoint. Would you like that better? The answer is locking up the criminals and stop making more.

Metha done is a legal medical prescription for addicts. Meth adone is classified as a lifesaving drug. In an appropriate clinical setting the dosage is given daily in liquid form. No one leaves with a prescription. Urine tests are performed to make sure a recipient is not doing any other drugs. those who are addicted no longer combat the physical sickness that occurs daily. They are able to work and no longer "need" to be in the street. her o in, alcohol and barb it uates are all life threatening with sudden removal from the drug. Coc aine, meth and mari juana provide no physical deadly danger by suddenly stopping use. I suggest everyone gets educated. Even though you may not need the answers, you may not know when you might be able to help someone else. her o in knows know race, gender, locale or economic status. Don't fool yourselves and believe no one you know is experiencing a problem within their family. BTW, young people do not listen to the radio.

Francine, I'm not the one who wants to eliminate crime by making it legal. That's your idea. I was just demonstrating the fallacy of the idea. You absolutely cannot reduce violent crime by making drugs legal. It has never worked and will never work. When they ended Prohibition, the criminals just found other crimes to commit. They will do the same with drugs.

The question I would pose in order to decide what to legalize and what not to is, "Which has a more negative impact on society, the impact of an activity on society or the impact on society of trying to eliminate an activity." I realize that this means that one is picking the "lesser of two evils." I think life is full of those kinds of choices.

Actually Francine, I think we agree. We can't get any legalization quickly. What are the interim possibilities. Most of us agree the "old ways" and approaches do not work. Do we support the new methadone clinic? i think so. Although Old Lyco seems to be split, Loyalsock has White Deer PHP and the plaza and Giant seem to have survived without incident.

"Then, I heard the word, "salvation" and some venerable people exhorted its value. That alone told me that someone or people in that station had their feet on solid ground.

Unlike most media today, the fact that the Biblical truths were mentioned was quite refreshing. Consider the fact that most of the time you listen to the radio, you'd think the content was written by the devil. You know, he is a powerful force in the world." - Alan Cohick
